Voice or data only mobile plans

I ended up with a data only eSIM plan. I used Skype calls for the few local phone calls I made to accomodation. If I booked something I mostly emailed a day or do ahead. Places that were open responded promptly. If I didn’t hear from them it was because they were closed. I used FaceTime to call...

Voice or data only mobile plans

I have sent you a Private Message! I think so - I didn’t actually check. I don’t tend to book in advance and so it is not really an issue for me. I have booked a handful of places for my first week so I can walk really short days - the ones that want confirmation want to use WhatsApp.

    Have you used Aíralo?

Roamless looks promising, and I'd be interested in your impression of it once you've used it. If you can follow up with a post to share your thoughts after your walk, that would be great. Buen Camino!

Voice or data only mobile plans

I’m currently using Holafly eSIM in my iPhone, ATT in the US. I have a 90 day unlimited data plan with 60 mins of tele. I’m using WhatsApp for calls, so far no problems. Leaving from Oloron St Marie on Monday, I’ll update on connections in Spain. So far, I’m pleased. $10 per day on ATT adds up...

Voice or data only mobile plans

I've yet to use an eSim, but this article from Airalo tells how to switch between Sims. https://www.airalo.com/blog/can-i-use-an-esim-and-a-regular-sim-at-the-same-time

Voice or data only mobile plans

...also interested. Last year I used our AT&t international plan and it ended up being quite expensive. This year , I am considering buying an eSIM with Airalo. Only data, and use WhatsApp to keep my own U.S. number. But another person made a good point about the importance of being able to...

Voice or data only mobile plans

...that you will ever need ( assuming you do not watch movies on the trail ). As mentioned, 28 day plan, not sure cell call to NZ viable unless you upgrade. If you have a new phone dual SIM capable, I suggest you put NZ plan on ESIM before you go, that leaves SIM slot vacant for travel cell plans.

    Have you used Aíralo?

...the Airalo 10GB month BUT I ended up only paying $20 to get $30 of data because of discounts and bonuses applied. If I end up using less than that (which I expect will be the case), it will still be comparable. eSIMs are certainly the easy way to go, and in many cases, cheaper than a physical...

    Have you used Aíralo?

I used Airalo last fall when walking the Portuguese Camino and was very pleased. When I crossed into Spain at Tui, it was necessary to purchase data for my time in Spain and that was straightforward. I am not sophiscated with this kind of thing, but had no problems at all. Wifi is ubiquitous in...

How to call a US cell number from the US (when the phone is in Spain)

We have Verizon too, I just changed our plan to Ultimate Unlimited which includes international calling, data etc. $25 more per billing cycle. We will change back to the cheaper plan when we get home. We will also get an Inexpensive Orange e-sim card for 1 phone, so we can leave an in-country...

    Have you used Aíralo?

I've used Airalo and the Orange eSim on the VdlP and they both worked great.

    GPS maps for walking

...both to return me to, and keep me on “track”. And, like you, I mourn the loss of Ninja…it was a great app. Now, if someone (maybe you, df?) could please explain phones, sims / esims, and service plans on the Camino in the same plain-speak, I’m sure many peregrinos would be VERY appreciative!

    Have you used Aíralo?

...it depends on what you’re looking for, but I had unlimited data for the period of time I purchased, and it also allowed me to use the holafly esim to make WiFi calls via my NZ (skinny) mobile connection. Super useful, fantastic mobile data coverage (it switches between local networks...

    Have you used Aíralo?

@Rick of Rick and Peg has used it, and has several posts about Airalo. Here's one:

    Have you used Aíralo?

Usually I buy an Orange SIMcard when I arrive in Spain and that has always served me well. However this time I am considering getting an eSIM before I leave. It seems Aíralo is the best value. Does anyone have any experience with them and do you know of any drawbacks? Obviously I could not text...

How to call a US cell number from the US (when the phone is in Spain)

We do plan to get Spanish SIM cards after we get there because the T-Mobile data is slow and I think calls are 25 cents a minute (and Vodafone is so inexpensive these days). But, I wanted to be sure my family could use our US numbers as an alternate way to reach us, especially before we get our...

How to call a US cell number from the US (when the phone is in Spain)

Yes, but T-Mobile has free services in Spain so the OP doesn't have to switch sim cards.

How to call a US cell number from the US (when the phone is in Spain)

...They want $10 per day to use my phone internationally with limited data. With a 30-40 day Camino, that’s more than I care to spend. I’m planning to use the free WhatsApp to make calls when I have WiFi (Albergues), download an eSIM for my phone when I wanna use data, like on the trail. Buen...

    Vodaphone Travel eSim

I'll let everyone know once I start using it next week. Not being a heavy data user, I may not find out. I used one in the UK and had no problem though. Stay tuned!

    Vodaphone Travel eSim

...this article in today's New York Times, which of course made me think of my fellow peregrinos: https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/esim-cards-replacing-sim-cards/ I read via another recent thread that Holafly's "unlimited" data comes with a catch: apparently, data speeds are...
