A wide toe box trail runner

I switched from Hokas to Topos with zero regrets and a lot fewer blisters.

A wide toe box trail runner

I too have a narrow heel and a wide forefoot so this spring I got the Topo Ultraventures, standard width. I have used them on hundreds of kms of training walks and almost 5 weeks on the Francés this year and they have proved to be quite comfortable as well as durable. The only downside that I...

A wide toe box trail runner

On the US website I see there is a wide version as well as standard. The wide does not appear to be available in New Zealand, but here you can see just how much wider even the standard is than my Skechers (that are too tight to walk comfortably in) I would love to try the wide just for the fun...

A wide toe box trail runner

They've been mentioned from time to time, e.g. here. I am curious that you find them wide enough - on the website there is only one width "Standard." If they are width enough to fit your EE foot, maybe I'll need to check them out!

A wide toe box trail runner

...have been snug. Altra Lone Peaks are fine, but zero drop is no longer an option for me, so that ruled them out. Enter stage left Topo Ultraventures. I have not heard anyone mention them on the forum, but if you are looking for a roomy toebox (and super comfortable and stable midsole with...

    Hiking/Walking Shoes or Sandals

...your input. I decided today that the Altras will go back to REI. I’ve had a week of walking in them, on walks between 3 and 6 miles, and at the end of each, it felt like everything in my body hurt - something that never happened with the Hokas. So I’m going to give the Topo Ultraventures...

    Hiking/Walking Shoes or Sandals

The Speedgoats were too narrow for me but the Hoka Challenger ATR5’s fit well. I do, however, wear the Topo Ultraventure more often now.

    Hiking/Walking Shoes or Sandals

I’m a big fan of Topo Athletic shoes. I have gone through several pairs of the Ultraventures style with good success. Other styles have more cushioning, I think. They all have the wide toe box, which I love.

Enquiry about foot care, bunions, weather…..

Thank you so much for the great tips. Brilliant footcare advice there, I’ve taken a copy of it as it will no doubt be useful. Have just looked up Topo Ultraventure 3 and they have them at Berg Freunde where They also sell Altras. Have just bought a new pair half size up but will certainly...

Enquiry about foot care, bunions, weather…..

Love my Altra Timp 4 for extra cushion, but I just started wearing a pair of Topo Ultraventure 3 with vibrant soles & they are like walking on clouds over rocks & not too cushiony & like Altras have wide toe box. I’m ecstatic! And cheaper! I did what you do with grease & powder, but then I...

Altras - different types ? how to modify the zero drop & comparison to other wide ‘toe box’ trail shoes.

Add another to the Topo camp, and echo the point about the narrower heel. BIG PLUS, if you purchase directly from them, you can try (YES, wear!) the shoes for 30 days to see if they actually work for you. If not, send them back.

Altras - different types ? how to modify the zero drop & comparison to other wide ‘toe box’ trail shoes.

Just tested Topo's Ultraventure 3 for 5 days on St. Olav's Way in Sweden. Wide toe box, (not Zero drop, which takes some getting used to) and pretty cushy. They have just earned a spot on the CP for this fall (even with all those cobblestones). The key for me is that unlike the Hoka's, Topo...

Altra trail shoes versus hiking shoes

I have been using the Altra Olympus (3 pair) for a few years and many miles now. They work well for me but the zero drop did take a bit of getting used to. Im not all that sold on the zero drop hype, but the wide toe box is a must for me. Another wide toe box shoe worth mention is the Topo...

Hoka Alternatives with Similar Padding and heel-to-toe Drop?

I'd highly recommend Topo Ultraventure 3, which should fit your needs :-)

    HOKA warning

I bought the inserts for arch support and cushioning after a clerk at the store highly recommended them.

    HOKA warning

I have ordered the Topo Ultraventure 3 as well. I am using a Topo running shoe for short distances and mostly on pavement until the trail shoes arrive. I also ordered the shoe gaiters that are available to clip right on the shoes. Did you get the hiking insert to improve the overall cushioning...

    HOKA warning

I just recently switched from Altras because they were breaking down so quickly. If they are available in the Netherlands I highly recommend Topo Athletic Ultraventure 3. They have a wide toe bed and great cushioning. I added a hiking insert and have been extremely happy wearing them right out...

My first Camino - clothing & footwear when done walking for the day

I LOVED my Topos (ultraventure 2). They have a wide toe box like Altras but have a 5cm drop, which is much better for my chronic shin splints and touch of plantar’s fasciitis than zero drop. I bought two identical pairs in case I wore them out on the Portuguese central last month. But that pair...

    Topo ultraventure 2

Struck out in Madrid today so I will start with the UV2s though I plan to move to my Chacos soon. I have about 20 miles in the UV2 and haven't gotten any unexpected blisters so there is that... Good luck with the taping ! I do really like the cushioning on these shoes.

    Topo ultraventure 2

...Mananath. I have extremely high arches too, but average width. If I can toughen up the balls of my feet and try taping, I think my topo ultraventure 2 will be fine. They are extremely comfortable except when my soles heat up. At least for now, I'll keep training with them. I'll be anxious to...
