Sale on Merrell footwear (December 2024)

I live in a rural area where there is no easy access to places where I can try other brands and styles. For so many years I could easily order a new pair direct from Merrell, and for the first time, I find myself reluctant to continue the old pattern! I may have no other option, but I will be...

Sale on Merrell footwear (December 2024)

I walked the first Camino in 2009 and since then have probably traipsed around Spain for more than 6000kms, always wearing Merrell Moabs (delighted to find out what 'Moab' stands for!) The longest Way was close to 1600km, and although the soles were as smooth as a baby's...whatever... when I got...

    Spain visa itinerary ???

I would assume you are travelling from Canada under a Canadian passport. If that is the case, then a visa is not necessary. From what I understand, the new regulations will require the equivalent of a 'landing pass' which you will fill out on arrival, giving information that is in your passport...

    Translation Earbuds

Eeee...of course I take a phone (needed it this year to call 112)....although I do remember the days of the locoturios and internet cafes. I have noticed the mirth and merriment that ensues when Google translate or some other app embarresses the the poor Korean gal because of it's 'explicit'...

    Lodging

It seems that every year is different. This year (2024) was very much a 'scramble ahead if you can' year. I did not intend to walk the Camino Frances, but that was where I ended (or started...Burgos), though, in exactly your 'window'. I walked the Frances from 12 September and the numbers...

    Translation Earbuds

O peregrino...I have wandered all over Spain, and I am still trying to gain some proficiency in that beautiful language, and yet I have never felt I needed 'tech-translation'. Perhaps it is because I am a better than average mime, or perhaps it is that the Spanish people are such kindly hosts...

LIVE from the Camino My Camino Torres - November 2024

You are in for an adventure...albeit a much more controllable one than I set out on in 2018. I was trying to avoid a 'three-peat' on the Sanabrés. I did it without GPS guidance, relying on the University of Salamanca guide. After a while, those fences of the real cañada de Extremadura become...

LIVE from the Camino Lindsay’s Levante and Invierno

I will be five days behind you! I walked it 8 years ago (when I was 8 years younger:)). It is a wonderful Way. Buen Camino!

US TSA and a walking stick

Many poles are carbon fibre and collapsible, and yet it is still questionable if they are allowed as carry-on (see numerous other posts) as it can often depend on the security personnel at the particular point of departure. The one thing that is certain, though, is that it will not be allowed to...

    Spain Entry at Immigration

Usually just your first night's accommodation is all that is required.

    Santiago (Almond) Cake

The Canadian Company of Pilgrims posted a recipe many years ago. It works beautifully and is entirely gluten and dairy free...eggs, sugar and almond flour.

    Help with blisters

That certainly can be a cause, but also look at the shape of the insole of the shoe. Most of the trail runners come with hard insoles that cup the foot and therefore provide a number of rubbing spots. There is no reason that you can't clip those away with a handy pair of scissors!

    Help with blisters

Wow! Some really good advice...and not one needle and thread suggested! Changing socks (every 10kms or so...they don't have to be clean, just dry, and take the opportunity for the air to caress those hard-working feet)...brilliant! Covering the blister (once it is dry and clean)...that's...

LIVE from the Camino Camino De Levant

I m looking to start around that time, too. I have walked the de Levante before, but nothing ever stays the same!

    Money on the Camino

To clarify, I usually use my debit card for cash withdrawals and there is no problem with most of the ATMs, but they must be Cirrus compatible. It is all about international agreements between banks. As a related point, few years ago I walked the Camino de Madrid with a friend who carried an...

    Money on the Camino

Unfortunately I cannot access BBVA...it really does depend on what cards you have (do your homework before you leave, sez I)...and where you are walking. Not every Camino is the Francés.

    private albergues cancelling reservations

Unfortunately what has been happening is that too frequently pilgrims have not confirmed their accommodation or have decided to stay elsewhere without notifying the hospitaleros. However, I do recognize the 'kitchen sin cookware'. I buy some styrofoam plates etc that the microwave at least can...

    Money on the Camino

In my experience those ATMs are few and far between. More commonly, if a €100 can be included, it will.

    Ordering "agua del grifo"

Me too...water deep from Christina Lake. 20kms down the road and the water is...vile...and hints of a chemical soup. However, I have drunk deeply from "non tratada" sources in all regions of Spain, and have not ever suffered 'consequences'.

    refusing disposable sheets in albergues?

That I do understand...it is the tallest, the most elegant and the most incendiary of trees...it is a case of 'horse...stable...bolted'
