    Waterproof Jacket/Coat

When are you walking the VDLP? I think rain gear should be the least of your worries lol but then I walked it in June. My advice: take an umbrella. Useful for the sun.

    Snowfall in the Roncesvalles area

Currently in Burgos. I also went back and forth with my packing before I left, and thought I brought too much. Has been cold, wet, and windy (and sometimes hailing) for the past 5 days and I’m grateful for every piece of clothing that I brought, because I’ve been wearing most of it during the...

    A long (winding) road.

I think this was after Villamayor de Monjardin in April 2015: Approaching Villamayor de Monjardin (I have taken multiple photos of this scene over the years; one of my favorites on the CF). The road seems a bit longer when it's wet and windy (purchased an Altus poncho in Santo Domingo the...

    Altus Poncho/Rain Coat

I believe you can reserve one to pick up in St. Jean Pied-de-Port at Boutique du Pelerin. Otherwise, along the Frances, if people pick up ponchos, my impression is that they typically drop into and buy a Decathlon one. I do not know the weight of the Decathlon poncho. Please do await and...

    Weather in April

As Trekker One said, that's also a toss-up. Some are cold, but if they're full of pilgrims, it can get miserably warm, with people 'discussing' opening/closing windows. I always try to get a bed next to a window for this reason. I don't think you need a thicker sleeping bag - you can always...

    Altus Poncho/Rain Coat

Just weighed my rain gear and it is 3 times that of the Altus, you know what I'm going for.

    Folding up an Altus?

yes mine came with a bag and i'm able to stuff it back in. maybe while you're out and about you can get a little plastic bag and just shove it in there. anything will work. the bag it came with is tiny and handy but replaceable.

How to order from Decathlon Spain if in Canada/USA.

I agree that Decathlon can't compare with the service and guarantees that REI provides. On my first camino I remember I bought a Altus poncho in a store in Madrid. It was not Decathlon if I remember but I ordered and paid online about 3 weeks before my camino. I printed the receipt and brought...

    Where to buy Altus Poncho

🛍️🛍️🛍️ AND it had a 21% discount … so even tho we are paying $12 for 🇺🇸 shipping… it still is the “regular Altus poncho price of about $60/€60” I’ve already ordered 3 different rain coats to try and return (Thank you REI and Hard Mountain for reasonable return policies 😁) Whooo-hoo… Happy Dance...

Do I need better rain gear? (or mental strategy for rain)

As others have said, the Altus Poncho is the Best but anything that keeps you and your pack dry in one thing is better. if something is needed out of the pack, it should be possible to get at it without having to take the poncho off. BONUS! Imagine this situation if wearing a rain jacket and a...

Do I need better rain gear? (or mental strategy for rain)

We upgraded our rain gear to Altus ponchos this year. They cover your pack and your person, but they can be warm during hot weather. Here's a photo of my husband Phil wearing his. As @good_old_shoes shoes says people prefer different rain solutions and you have at least one of those solutions...

Rain gear on Ingles in beginning October

I agree with henrythedog that warmth and waterproofing should be separate. I also take a light fleece. I find the coldest time is early morning and evening....you won't want to sit around in a waterproof jacket. You might be lucky and have no rain. However rain in Galicia is quite common and...

Hiking stick instead of walking poles

Thanks! I didn't even realize there was a pilgrim store.

    Rain jacket recommendations

Frogg Toggs also sells rain jackets, which I have seen recommended if you are looking for an answer to your rain jacket question rather than just advice to switch to a poncho. 😉 I know the rain jacket/poncho/umbrella discussions can get quite dogmatic here.

    Where to buy Altus Poncho

You asked the same question in March. The reply answered your question in Leon. Post in thread 'Which poncho?' https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/which-poncho.78985/post-1114853

Barrebes in Madrid is another choice. Edit: El Corte Ingles also has Altus Ponchos on their website. https://www.elcorteingles.es/centroscomerciales/es/eci/buscar?query=Altas+poncho&kcenter=eci&button=
