    Waterproof Jacket/Coat

I love a rain jacket or rain coat when I don't have a pack on. Now that I have an Altus Poncho, I would not go back to a jacket. It is light, stuffs easily into a bottle pocket. Completely covers my pack. Has sleeves like a real jacket. Has an adjustable hood like my raincoat.

    Altus Poncho/Rain Coat

Is the Altus poncho easy to come by while on the Camino Frances or is it best to try to get it before leaving from home?

    Rain! rain Rain!

I usually carry an ALTUS poncho and I often carry an umbrella - a STICK umbrella, not a collapsing one. They're handy in sun (you'll walk many degrees cooler) and in rain, and good for fending off dogs and using as an occasional walking stick. I buy mine in Spain when I arrive.

    Altus Poncho/Rain Coat

You all look so... smiley! I wish the current Altus ponchos would come in lurid orange or fluorescent yellow or screaming red!

    Altus H30 vs J30

Just finished the Norte and used my Altus poncho. I’m 100 pounds and don’t sweat much and my husband and I were soaking wet in our ponchos. Will be buying Decathlon’s version for our next Camino.

    Rain...rain pants?

My preference would be the Altus poncho/raincoat, which you can purchase from the Forum Store, Caminoteca in Pamplona, or reserve at Boutique du Pelerine in St Jean Pied de Port. It's a great option because it completely covers your backpack, has long sleeves, and a full zip front which helps...

    November/December Camino

In winter I wear gortex mid height boots. They keep my feet warmer. (Summers I wear trail runners non-gortex.) Carry some balls of wadded newspaper (or get a couple of grocery store flyers if no newspaper) and stuff them in your shoes tightly and any moisture will be absorbed overnight. You can...

These are travel hacks I typically bring. What are some of your travel hacks? I'm targeting the beginning of Fall.

My Camino travel hacks: Shampoo bar instead of liquid shampoo, Scarf (pillow cover, fashion item, towel if needed, extra cover for warmth), Blinky light to attach to pack in the dark, Simple microwavable cup for packets of instant cafe con leche in the mornings or soup at night, Altus Poncho to...

Surprised at our test results poncho vs jacket

Yup! I used to think my rain coat was "all that", but now I swear by my Altus poncho. It is like wearing a jacket with sleeves that covers both you and your pack. I got mine in person in Pamplona last year at Caminoteca although Ivar has them on the forum store now, too. I know some people also...

    Waterproof Jacket/Coat

It does depend on when you walk. I would recommend an umbrella that deflects UV rays. I would never walk the VDLP in late Spring or summer. I walked and started in late October and the temps were about 90-95F for more than a week. I have never used gortex for my trail runners. Boots are...

    Poncho in SJPDP?

I am sure you can get a 4 dollar poncho, but many reserve the Altus Poncho in SJPDP at the pilgrim gear store here https://www.boutique-du-pelerin.com/en/ High quality poncho. Be warned, I walked several summer Caminos and never needed a poncho or rain jacket although my last two I wore a...

    Pack Cover Failure

Forget about a cover for your rucksack. Buy a large dry bag the same size and put it inside your rucksack, then pack all your stuff into it. I did this on every camino since 2011. I also had an Altus poncho which went over my rucksack anyway. On the Portuguese Camino in 2013 it rained non stop...

LIVE from the Camino Camino Primitivo 4/2024

    9. Day - Pola de Allande to Berducedo, 20km, Casa Marques (mini railings) The way up to Puerto de Palo is physically challenging, as is the rest of way to Berducedo - but it is doable. Enough breaks and slow walking brings me up and also down. It's raining - not a lot, but enough to enjoy my...
