Sending a Box from UK to Australia - Best Way?

Robo - I found a service that might work for you called Sendmybag - a service like this might work for you. https://www.sendmybag.com/en-us/quote/

    Subsistence in SJPDP

Sometimes you can order lunch at your albergue. I stayed at Beilari and their lunch was super handy as the food cart up in the hills only had a limited offering - bananas and boiled eggs - other snacks and drinks.

    Annual September Bed Race

Henry - when I walked in April/May this year - there were big Korean tour groups who pre-booked. In small towns this seemed to suck up a lot of available accommodation in albergues making it more difficult to find accommodation. The groups were about 20-30 people. Not sure if others have...

    Avoiding currency exchange fees

Some only charge 4 or 5 euros and I found one that charged no fee at all. Unicaja Banco in Vega de Valca - charged no fee. Euronet were about 3.95. I steered clear of Santander - as they had high fees of 7 euro.

Petos de Ánimas on Caminos — help me find them!

The marketing is not so different from today - urging one to act now.

    4th September 2024 Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port

It appears they have one available on booking.com for 4 September when I checked just now.

    Excessive heat

There is a fabulous invention - a body cooling scarf - where a neck scarf has gel in it. You soak it for 30 minutes in water and wear it around your neck. It does wonders in cooking you down - works for hours.

    Foooooood???

Also dates are excellent - they are an excellent energy source, they are relatively light to carry and also replenish electrolytes.

    Camino phone SIM

I also am fellow Aussie and I got an Orange e-sim in a kiosk shop in Madrid. I think it was 20 euro for 28 days with over 100 gig of data - which you really don’t need as all albergues have free wifi. I got an e-sim so I could keep my Australian physical sim at the same time. I used my roaming...

    Enough time between flight connections

You can try and get your luggage booked through to Santiago when you check in with United. If you can check it all the way through that will be the clincher. The luggage checkin process in Spain is the slowest I have ever encountered. ( I heard Kenya is worse).

    Help with blisters

I saw some silicone toe protectors in Astorga - I don’t think they were Scholls though. I use ones for my second toes - as they are longer than my big toes and it stops them feeling sore from walking down hills. They would also work for blisters.

    Paris to SJPDP

I only suggested flying as it does not appear from an earlier post in available trains that he would get to St Jean the same day if he took the train.

    Paris to SJPDP

Check on RometoRio remember that he has to get from Paris airport to the Paris train station - so flying to Biarritz might be simpler. Biarritz airport is not large and many buses seem to go through it. I think I was on a BlaBla bus that stopped there before dropping me in Bayonne.

    Orisson

I expect that it is hard going working at Orisson - you have all these newbie pilgrims who have not learned the ropes yet and maybe having greater expectations than is realistic- so a lot for the Albergue at Orisson to manage.

    Orisson

I think Borda is better than Orisson - I heard glowing reviews about it. At Orisson the people working were not super friendly when I passed through - Borda is a small intimate albergue and not too much further than Orisson.

    Drive through Logroño

The long walk on pavement into Burgos on road is one part that was less enjoyable for me. I also missed the turn off to the nicer pathway into Burgos, so went cross country through industrial areas to find it. Too much concrete or asphalt that day for sure. Leon too had a fair amount of hard...

    Food on less traveled Caminos

Jerry for the Aquarius - I kept a bottle and refilled it with a can. That way I did not need to drink it all at once. Only thing is the cans only have 330ml and bottles were 500ml I think.

    Food on less traveled Caminos

I have not done this type of walking yet - but dates must be mentioned as a super food for hikers - as not only do they give an energy boost but also restore electrolytes lost through sweating.
