"Gloves in a Bottle" for blister prevention?

Thanks for the suggestions. The Sportslick looks, well, slick. :) I think that I'll add it and Gloves in a Bottle to stuff to try on my feet. I'll probably skip the 2Toms stuff, because I want to get away from that kind of applicator. I used Wrightsocks double layer socks last year, and they...

"Gloves in a Bottle" for blister prevention?

I bought it to test it. I did not get blisters, but I did not think it had enough silicone to be effective in the long run, so I returned to Sportslick. 2Toms makes a roll on silicone which I found to be quite effective and nongreasy. http://www.2toms.com/sportshield/

How to train for the Camino?

Thanks Falcon for your detailed comments. I am at the very early planning stage and already feel I am benefitting. We are planning on the last 100kns only. I have had a knee replacement and will be my first ever distance walk. July 2017 which hopefully won't be unbearably hot. Many thanks

    Hiking Shoes, or Hiking Boots?

    awesome thanks, C

    Right size shoes

Yes. Moisture causes friction. Vaseline repels water. Talc also repels water (but foot powders that use corn starch retain water). Silicone and its relatives also lubricate and repel water. I use SportSlick which is petrolatum (Vaseline) and silicone.

How to train for the Camino?

Sorry, I realise this is an old thread, but......... Can these products be bought along the CF, or do you bring enough for the whole walk? Couldn't see anything about buying locally (maybe I missed it)

How to train for the Camino?

Great advice. One question: For the polypropylene inner sock what percentage polypropylene should they be? I see some that are 100%, I see some that are 83% nylon, 15% polypropylene and 2% spandex. If anyone has a link to some of the ones that they have successfully used please post. Thank you!

Appreciate your response on the lubricant issue. I'll get some to take on the Camino.

    Class of 2015

I use Sportslick: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007OC0A2/?tag=casaivar02-20 I put it between my toes, on top and bottom of my toes, along the side of my foot, and on my heel. The 3.8 oz. tube lasts for a camino, so I would say I use a medium amount per application. It is mostly in my liner socks...

A few questions for our first camino...

I prefer SportSlick to Vaseline for my feet, though it is just Vaseline with some "silicone" added. The tube is quite convenient, and it lasts me more than a month. http://www.sportslick.com/ Most of the pilgrims do not stop at Orisson because they have limited beds, so it is quite possible to...

How Fit Were You at the Start?

...my husband walked with me today. Part way through he thought he had a hotspot on his toe. Out from my pack I pulled spare woollen socks, liner socks and sportslick... got him to change from his normal everyday socks... let his feet breath for a bit and put the new socks on... worked a...

    Should I buy these socks?

Hi Doug... maybe i'll try talc - I've used sportslick for my last couple of walks and not sure if I like it? but my second pair of shoes aren't great so difficult to say for sure yet. Annie - the footwear issue is a nightmare for me! I bought one parir and they are ok now, better with wear...

    France-Camino: Mar/Apr/May 2014

I used up my Sport Shield, so I am using Sportslick out of my personal inventory! It is greasy, but I don't mind that. http://www.sportslick.com/ http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007OC0A2/?tag=casaivar02-20

...back in the 70's and while living In Southern California, we would hike into the High Sierra Mtn. Also, I've heard mention of using Sportslick, curious in those results. I plan on trying several options but definitely Merino wool socks(3 pr). I'm also thinking of using a tent to save cash...

    Hiking Shoes, or Hiking Boots?

...whereas the salomons are very comfortable over the same distance, I have tried all combinations are socks and liner and have used sportslick and powerglide, I now use the salomons and just Smartwool ultra light hiking socks without a liner and my feet are fine and blister free, Everybody is...

    Ungüentos and vaseline

Either of the alternatives Falcon269 has listed seem to be good options. I don't know what is available (although most stuff is available online nowadays). I personally prefer using an anti-fungal foot powder to keep my feet dry and reduce the friction. I have used a sports lubricant elsewhere...

Major cause of blisters and other foot ailments

...changes size a bit, you can switch socks. Further, I recommend a foot lubricant. The most readily available is talc and Vaseline. I use SportSlick which has some silicone added to the Vaseline, and I have successfully used other silicone products that reduce friction. Check a local running...

Major cause of blisters and other foot ailments

I have used Gloves in a Bottle, and it works well. It is not greasy like my SportSlick. I still prefer the SportSlick. No blisters with either.

Just returned from the Camino....Advice to others 60+ years

Re: Just returned from the Camino....Advice to others 60+ years Amazon.com has SportSlick and I have the free shipping plan. REI has it, and many running stores, too. I buy the 3.8 oz. tube. Liberally applied, you should get a Camino from a tube. Talc repels moisture, though it may appear to...
