    Travel to Burgos

I have always flown to Bilbao and taken the bus early in the day to Burgos.

    Which Camino for 2025? (January/February)

I would love to join you but January is out of the question for me.

Considering walking from Le Puy-en-Veley spring 2025

Later in the summer, August, is when all the French flee their cities and take long holidays. Hiking has become very popular.

Apparently to this group 60 is the new 40!

Vince, that is great advice for a daily routine. Get up around dawn, shortly after the bag rustling mob leaves and walk your own pace. Find a cafe con leche somewhere that's opens before the normal 9am starting time for cafes, take a leisurely breakfast break around 10, explore the village or...

    Corpus christi

This happens during many fetes throughout the year in town's venerating their patron saint or a major religious holiday. You can find it happening anywhere.

Detours to Javier Castle, Leyre Monastery, and Foz de Lumbier

My question would be: why fix something that is not broken? Do you think they are looking to go up market with a four star facility?

Apparently to this group 60 is the new 40!

Glad to see you are catching on and getting some great advice. I started when I became 65 in 2011 and then walked numerous routes and volunteered until 2019 until I became disabled with nerve damage in my feet.

Casa noble. I hate having to ask, but ...

Or a very bad translation which is fairly normal.

Detours to Javier Castle, Leyre Monastery, and Foz de Lumbier

Laurie, so you are saying the lodging at the Monastery is closed until 2028?

Considering walking from Le Puy-en-Veley spring 2025

I think if you review the average weather for June, you will find that normally it is not a problem; but then who knows after watching the recent sever rainstorms in Spain. The world's weather has become unpredictable.

Detours to Javier Castle, Leyre Monastery, and Foz de Lumbier

I definitely can attest to the fact that there is no support along the north side of the lake. I could see that from the bus as I made my way to Pamplona and I have also driven it one time when I visited San de la Pena from my home in Biarritz after spending the night at the monastery in Leyre...

Detours to Javier Castle, Leyre Monastery, and Foz de Lumbier

I took the bus from that gas station several years ago. My reason was I had not gone to an ATM in Jaca to top up my cash and I was basically running on empty. There are no ATM on the Aragones except in larger towns. At any rate, and it may have been on a weekend, I'm not sure; the scheduled bus...

Buy the Miam Maim Dodo guide book, it is worth every cent you pay for it. You don't necessarily need to be fluent in French but knowing the language helps. April can be cold, I started in late May and encountered sleet and snow and then a heat wave in June, when I ended up relying on rides with...

    Percentage of Return Pilgrims?

Perhaps she should have punctuated thus: "path" ological?

    Percentage of Return Pilgrims?

I framed 4 of my Compostelas, collected another 4 and did bother to collect 3. I would much rather save and share my passports, I have framed 4 of those and have another 8 sitting on my desk. Regarding meeting repeat offenders, I would reckon that quite a few less than 10% of the people I have...

EU/Schengen: How Sticky is it Really?

    Thank you Michael. Case closed.

EU/Schengen: How Sticky is it Really?

My suggestion is not to test the system. You might be the first of many expats who can not come back to the Schengen Zone

EU/Schengen: How Sticky is it Really?

I don't think Henry is correct. You can not just exit Schengen for a days or so to Moscow and come back and still continue another 90 days.

    Which Camino for 2025? (January/February)

My experience living in Estoril was it is not "warmish" in January and February and the prevailing winds/rains are forever coming in from the west off of a very chilly Atlantic Ocean. It is one of the reasons I left Portugal, I don't even think the Algarve is conducive to t-shirts in the winter...
