VdlP Food Recommendations - A Serious Question

There are three places at Granja offering food: The bar "Teleclub" next to the public albergue and two other ("cle-bis" and „L’espiga“) In the latter we had a very good hamburger and a remarkable barbecue). I did the Camino Sevilla-Zamora in June 2019 and Zamora - Santiago in August 2021 and...

In praise of Motel Truckstops on the Camino

going back on the VdP or Camino Sanabrés I can recommend: Restaurante Complejo Leo, 4 km before Monesterio (splitting the big stage and the next smaller one in two feasible ones) Hostal Asturias Hostal Juan-Manuel in Camarzana de la Tera (a good option as Sta. Marta de la Tera albergue was...

LIVE from the Camino Walking the VDLP from Seville: Overcoming Injury and Seeking Credencial

It is true. I was there in June 2019 and it was open by 4.30 and everything in perfect order. So I think, they really open at 4.00 o'clock, at least in summer when pilgrims to avoid the heat on this heavy stage want to start early. BC Alexandra

    Santiago to Finisterre alone (woman)

I walked both Santiago - Dumbria - Muxía and Santiago - Fisterra - Muxía as a solo woman and never felt scared. But I try to avoid equipment and clothes which allow to identify me as a woman from afar.

Albergues yet open on the Via de la Plata/Camino Sanabrés

Yes, it seems that I have to be more flexible in planning the next stage and phone in advance to find out where I can sleep the next night. I am glad that I am in good shape and walking the Moselcamino this June proved that I can walk 30km+ on several subsequent days. But I really hope that the...

Albergues yet open on the Via de la Plata/Camino Sanabrés

Thanks a lot. My main concern is the section before Galicia, where the Xunta-Albergues are now open. It seems that some stages can not be done as reccomended in the guide-books because auf lack of accomodation. And my concern is that in some cases the rare accomodation available will be "completo".

Albergues yet open on the Via de la Plata/Camino Sanabrés

Hi, I will start from Zamora on August 10th, but I am still worried about accomodation. The useful Website of Antonio Retamoso claims to be in the process of being updated but it still lists albergues as closed which appear as open on Gronze (which seems to be rather up-to-date, too). Where...

Which route has more Spanish Speakers?

If you want to practice your Spanish, you should opt for one of the less popular Caminos, e. g. Via de la Plata/Sanabrés, Camino de Madrid. I walked the Camino Portugues from Porto twice and rarely met any Spanish people there. So is the camino Inglés (many Italians and Germans). The Primitivo...

    Useful advice for (new) Peregrinos

It is a creative idea, but it will rise expectations. Not everyone with whom you shared a nice evening or more on the camino is willing to stay in touch thereafter. I have walked various Caminos, but have not exchanged adresses vastly. In the whole I exchanged adresses with 9 or 19 other...

LIVE from the Camino Getting crowded on Camino Finisterre

"Albergue Horreo" - I can remember my first camino de Finisterre 2007. At that time the public albergue (btw the only one at that time) offered Sport matresses for the two horreos at their premises for pilgrims willing to sleep there. Some A couple enjoyed their separate "room".

What was the thing you were most happy to lose on the Camino?

@ Annie: I guess you meant weight, but Robo thought about money (30e = 30 €?)

Fall 2021 Via de la Plata Camino

I had a look at this planning-tool and from my experience on the VdP I can not recommend it. Worst is stage 7 on the Sanabrés section (titeled: "Grandas de Salime to A Fonsagrada"). The length - roughly 35 km - is ok, but it is A Gudina to Laza (the other towns are on the Camino Primitivo)...

Some albergues seem to be disappearing from Google Maps

Hi, I am a member of the Paderborn Cofraternity of St. James. Their shelter is temporarily closed, but they hope to re-open in March 2021. But they are also moving to different premises, as the old hostel was too close to the river and flooded regularily. So this may explain why you can not find...

    Mallorca Camino de Santiago

Actually it does not seem to be a newly created camino, but just taking the traditional pilgrim route from Palma to Lluc monastery ("Cami vell de Lluc") in the opposite direction. From Lluc to Tossals Verds it seems to coincide with the GR 221.

    Mallorca Camino de Santiago

Hi Kevin, I did sections of the GR 221 a few years ago and thus I am sure, that the Camino must be something different. The GR 221 follows the westcoast from Port d'Andratx to Pollenca, via Esporles, Valdemossa, Deia, Port de Soller, Embalse de Cuber (Refugio Tossals Verds), Lluc. Here you find...

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD People entering Galicia have to register

Hi Anna, it does not matter if you feel that this registration makes sense. You are a guest in Spain and thus spanish law applies. In your specific case you did not violate the law as you did not enter Galicia from one of the regions mentioned above, but from Asturias. But if you enter from...

    Castilblanco to Almaden

Hi, in 2008 - with my parents - I took a taxi to the entrance of El Berrocal but later I felt that I had missed something. Last summer I walked the whole stretch. In total it is 30 km. If you start early, it is feasible. Leaving Castilblanco on the camino you will pass by a coffee-bar which...

Detailed planning for the Camino Sanabres, March-April 2020

I can still remember my visit in this bar back in 2010. The bored waitress was wearing a Barca sports-dress and watching the spanish version of "the Wheel of fortune" on TV. The level of this TV-Entertainment was considerably low. You have to complete words or phrases which you must guess from...

Detailed planning for the Camino Sanabres, March-April 2020

I have even found out by Google Maps and IGN, that walking from Riego del Camino to the monastery could be a short-cut (-2 km) on your way to Tabara (if - like me - you want to bypass La Granja de Moreruela).

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD COVID-19: Corona virus discussion (Round 4)

At present everything seems to be in a flow. No-one can tell, what the situation will be one week ahead or even tomorrow. As someone who is not retired yet and has only limited holiday time I would postpone my plans if were to start within the next month - not because I fear that the risk of an...
