Spain total solar eclipse, August 12, 2026: Are camino towns preparIng?

I just heard an eclipse expert/enthusiast declaring that the Meseta is probably going to be the best place to view it - it could get a bit busy out there… Edit: Busier…

Food on the via la plata

+1 for Me Gusta Comer in RioNegro. Without doubt the finest menu del dia I’ve had (in 5.75) Caminos. 4 high quality courses, plus bread, wine, water, coffee & a shot for Eu15. It’s an experience not to be missed. Lunch from 13:30, dinner from 19:30. Directly across the road from the Albergue.

Given the current exchange rates, one possibility is that the host keyed in a charge of EU25 and not EU35 by mistake.

    Great Saint Bernard Pass Hospice

how comfortable it is: we slept in a spacious double bunk room, probably room for 12 people, plenty of space & privacy. quality of the food, etc., : very good communal dinner, breakfast of huge bowls of coffee & warm milk, toast & jam. I won't be traveling with a sleeping bag (will have a mummy...

LIVE from the Camino Conditions on Via de la Plata

Only two crossings today (Fuente de Cantos - Zafra): both just nuisance value now that the rain has stopped & the water levels have dropped.

LIVE from the Camino Conditions on Via de la Plata

Today’s best crossing, on the way to Fuente de Cantos (at about 13km out of Monesterio)… water cold & moving fast, stones sharp & slippery… but we got through.

LIVE from the Camino Conditions on Via de la Plata

Sorry for the slow response…That was the worst of them. Now that the rain has stopped in these parts, the water levels are dropping quite quickly, thankfully.

    Scam & booking.com

Unfortunately, they’ve infiltrated that too. Today I got the scam ‘credit card fail’ email. So I went to the ‘secure’ messaging service inside the Booking.com App, and the scam message was in there too 🙀. Not long after that, the hotel also sent a message to say that the scam message was a scam...

Alert VF Italy Section May 2024 - Giro D’Italia route announced

Some will see it as an exciting coincidence, and others as a busy disruption… but whichever camp you’re in, you might want to take a look at the various stages and make plans to meet / avoid as you see fit. I note in particular Stage 5 & Stage 21 affecting Lucca & Rome. Happy planning…

    Boots or trainers?

You might want to consider the time of year when you’re walking. We walked in May & June a few years ago (BC…) and there were many sections that were *very* muddy. The mud was unavoidable, and we were glad of the greater protection afforded by our boots.

In search of the best 'Flan' on the Camino?

Chez Germaine. It looks like they’ve been making the same Tarte there for a long time...
