If the Camino Frances stays crazy...

There are a couple of albergues in Larrasoana 5 kms before Zubri the Albergue Concejo de Larrasoana is certainly nothing flash and when I was there I ended up across the road in the 'overflow' accommodation…it was a bed…if you go on Google Maps and zoom in to Larrasoana you will see there are...

    Bayonne Accomodation

I second the hotel cote basque...stayed there two weeks ago after finishing the Le Puy Chemin. It's a sweet little hotel that is reasonably priced.

    Leaving SJPdP September 21,2016

We will pass each other as you go to SJPdP from Bayonne I will be on the train heading to the airport from SJPdP :) I aim to get to St Jean around the 16th of September having completed the Le Puy chemin. If anyone wants to catch up in St Jean before they head off on their pilgrimage that would...

Starting in Le Puy late August

I am staying here on the 14/08 it's avery busy weekend in Le Puy so I think it was a good idea to have the first night booked. http://www.unecoquillesousloreiller.com/ I found it cheaper to book via their website rather than booking.com etc.

    Le Puy route completed !!!

Cool! Well, actually 14th after I factor in a couple of days in Paris, we may bump into each other :) I am giving myself a good 6 weeks so I don't have to pound along as much as I did for the St Francis.

    Just back....lessons learned

Most dogs do :) like most people, most of them don't set out to be 'bad', just a way of minimising risk for those with a fear of them, and those wanting to eradicate the risk of a hospital visit.

    Just back....lessons learned

I think the chances of any of the concerned pilgrims having an issue with dogs is minimal, but, just as spiders hunt me down...so the best advice is to not engage with the dog, keep walking confidently and/or if necessary take an alternative route around the dog if possible. I find (and I work...

    Feeling rather irritated....

By researching the history of the Camino if I remember correctly back in days of old there were more pilgrims walking the Camino than there are now...it petered put and was virtually non existent during Francos rule, it was made more popular when Spain held the Olympics (Barcelona) and Spain...

    Laundry egg

I found that doing a machine wash every 2 or 3 days was plenty, you don't have to carry any detergent it's always there. I had an 'egg' at home for a while (my husband wanted to give it a try) I found it didn't 'wash' the clothes and also didn't remove the 'already worn smell', not B.O just the...

How (Not) To Drain A Blister

So glad you are feeling a bit better David, thank you for your blister advice :) I think you'll find that many Camino pilgrims have got what, I hope you don't mind me calling it, 'baggage', in fact most people do :) I know it's off topic, but some of the life stories I heard along The Way helped...

    Feeling rather irritated....

Some great replies here :) my experience was; being similar to yourself Angie94, as in 'over analysing', I did a LOT of research and planning for my Camino Frances in 2014, it paid off in many ways and in some ways I found some of the information wasn't as necessary as I thought it would be...

How (Not) To Drain A Blister

I was a bit barbaric with my blisters. Kind of following some suggestions above, I hacked into mine with nail clippers, leaving a decent sized hole, stung like mad, meh, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger!...allowing the serum to seep. I soaked my feet in salt water and lay in the sun to...

So I don't want to walk all the way down the hill before the end of the day...

I stayed in 2013. It was fantastic, the beds are very comfortable, incredibly sturdy so none of the usual rickity, squeaking all night as people toss and turn. The round restaurant mentioned is beautiful and I would recommend it as a must do. Enjoy! :)

    Aussie clothing for first timers

Hi Maree, I was in the same situation as you two years ago...never hiked anywhere and only backpacked in Europe in the 80's. I took 3 x Michelle Bridges Tshirts (they breath well, look OK and cost about $25 from Big W), 3 x Black lycra knee length exercise shorts (2 were MB so again cheap at...

    What backpack did you use?

:) I did it for shoes...bought my Lowa Renegades from REI (shipped to Australia) have worn them on 100kms in 3 day hike in Victoria and the Overland Track in Tasmania...not a single problem with them...my The North Face boots for the Camino ('15) gave me so much grief I wore my Teva sandals from...

When did you first become 'camino conscious'?

I can't remember the first time I heard about it, but I do remember thinking it was a crazy thing to do! Then, just as I NEEDED the Camino I was cropping up everywhere...travel pages in the newspaper, travel shows on TV (without wanting to sound like a 'tourist' because that is the last type of...

    A backpack is enough

Great point, I suppose it's kind of like a hitch-hiker feeling like they have lightened their 'load', yet they happily get in a car that someone else pays for petrol, servicing, insurance and purchasing...and then they say they don't burden the planet by having a car. But I do totally see the...

Train from Lyon to Le Puy

You can buy tickets at the station, they may be cheaper online though, they always have been for me. Of course you run the risk of a full train.
