Question about current Central Portuguese route conditions

Currently in Coimbra. No issues getting albergues, no bed bugs. Currently 27c in the town. Generally hot and very dry. Very fortunate to get a twin bed room in a guesthouse, in the center of town for 40 euros, prices are through the roof because of the Coldplay gig. A sleeping bag liner has...

Help! Coimbra is $$$ in mid-May

We are currently in Tomar for 2 nights. There are the celebrations at Fatima this weekend. I think the 'big' day is tomorrow. Will be taking a bus to Fatima to check it out. Cold Play have picked a good time to hold a concert....! Both probably explain a hike in prices / availability. Buen...

LIVE from the Camino Current conditions: Big wave on the Francés

I'll be in Burgos tonight. Yes accommodation is difficult. I might get the train from Burgos to Santiago, then walk to Murcia; and / or bus to Porto and walk the Portugues. Time is of no issue to me. The Frances is only one Camino....! Stay safe everyone....

Weirdest/Strangest item someone has taken on the Camino

Where there's a will, there's a way..... I spotted this lady on the Frances in 2019. 10 out of 10 for effort....! I did offer to pull the case up the hill for her. She looked at me with great disgust. I've always wondered what was in that case.....🤣

    Transport from Porto to Tui

There's a bus available from right outside the air terminal at Porto airport to Valenca. From there it's only a short walk to the bridge where you enter Spain, into the town of Tui. Enjoy your Camino...!

Walk the Portuguese or Francés in terms of safety (solo female)?

I have walked both the Frances and Portuguese and from a personal perspective have never felt intimidated on either, I am a male aged 61. When I walked the Portugues in 2018, I met up with many solo female hikers of your age and younger and not one of them had any stories of feeling...

    $31 pack?

I agree totally Roland. Plus, I'd rather have a $30 rucksack stolen / lost by an airline, than a $150 one...!

    $31 pack?

    Whatever floats your boat....!

    $31 pack?

It has been mentioned in this thread, 'a bag is a bag', go with what you can afford. There are alternatives of course, I spotted this one on the Frances in 2019.... 😉

A note on reserving beds and the spirit of the Camino

    Quite...! Well said.

Travel company or do it myself?

Welcome to the world of the Camino....! As with most others, I would say go with the flow. I used booking.com for the last camino Frances, almost exclusively. You can book hostels, b&bs and hotels that way. I used all these types of accomodation. At least that way you have certainty of a bed...

Have you been married a long time?

Sadly my wife died 21 years ago at the age of 40, but it's my parents 73rd wedding anniversary tomorrow (20th December). Merry Christmas and Buen Camino one and all....😉

    Alzheimer's

Hi Rob. When are you planning to go? I know what you are going through, my mother (96) has vascular dementia, a wicked condition. I am a recently retired nurse and completed my 3rd Camino last October. If the time was right for both of us, I would certainly come along and help. I stress the time...

    First Camino 2020

I walked from St Jean to Santiago last September and it was busy. As others have said, I'd book St Jean, or stay at Hunto for a first night, that'll give you a head start in the morning - the meal in Hunto was good... 😉 Zubiri was booked out, some people slept down by the river, with no issues...
