Ok entering the shoe debate with trepidation ...

I started the CF in merrel moab 3 hiking shoes and they worked fine without blisters but after about 8 days decided to try my chaco Z sandals. They were a game changer for me. I never wore the shoes for the remainder of the walk. I did wear them with darn tough smart wool socks and a silk...

Any Advice about how to strengthen my knees for down hills.

Practice down hill with your poles to determine the technic that works best for you. Poles are an absolute game changer on down hill hikes. They take a significant amount of stress off of your knees.

I lost my US passport in Madrid before I started the Frances. I made it the whole way just using a photo copy on my phone at all the alberques!

LIVE from the Camino My last Camino tomorrow Finistere/Muxia.

I loved that walk! I did it last Oct after finishing the Frances. It was a magnificent walk even though it rained hard over 50 % of the walk. I stayed over night in Lires which was nice. I had an amazing meal there at A Brana. I young chef there made a magical meal for me. Buen Camino

    Hiking shoes or sandals?

I walked the first 10 days in merrell Moab 3 in wide. They worked well without any blisters. But then I switched to my Chaco Z-1 also in a wide. The next 26 days were all in the sandals. They were a game changer for me…my feet were very happy with the change. I did also wear a thin liner...

Revised title: Didn't know about other ways to reserve beds, and found no rooms on booking.com

I just walked the CF 9/10-10/16. Since it was a very busy time I made advanced reservations for the first few days to Puenta la Reina. After that I made the reservations 1-2 days ahead. I found Bookings to be fine for the larger towns but often worthless for the small ones. They would...

    PSA: Wear Chacos!

I walked 700 km in in my Chacos and only three times had to stop to get small stones out. Could most always dislodge them with a little foot shake. I was wearing socks so don’t know if that kept them out. I walked the first 10 days in merrel hiking shoes and also had to occasionally stop and...

    PSA: Wear Chacos!

I walked my first 10 days in Merrill Moabs then tried my Chaco Z1 sandals. Never put my hiking shoes back on for the next 26 days! I didn’t have any particular issues with the shoes but felt so much better in the sandals. No blisters and my feet felt fine even walking 18-20 miles...

    Fleece or Micro-fleece or?

I'm starting Sept 8 as well. I ended up getting a light weight fleece vest, a light weight pull over smart wool long sleeve. I figure I can add my very light weight rain jacket if it gets too cool.
