  1. Dov of the Galilee

    insulin inquiry

When you walked did you bury it where the air couldn't circulate? This is my concern, placement. If it's too close to the sun that's no good but if you bury it then the whole cooling process is disrupted or so I would think....

    insulin inquiry

If an albergue has a refrigerator ask them if you can leave your frio overnight (expand the gel). I did this every 3 or 4 days and my insulins were ok for 30 days.

    insulin inquiry

Hello Graham, I to own and have used the Frio X-large pack but I have used it internationally, get to my destination and leave it out on the dresser with no problem. You have used it walking in the hotter months and my question is how do you place it that the bag gets air to keep cool . Any...

    Dexcom

Do you have travel insurance? If so you may be able to call and see if they can help you locate a provider and/or supplies. I think you do have to have a prescription from a Spanish doctor, but they may be able to identify who you could see.

    Dexcom

...Sort of a logistical problem since I’m walking. I do not see that device is available at a brick and mortar pharmacy. Yes, pump adjusts insulin flow based on blood glucose levels. Pump supplies both basal insulin rate- small, hourly infusion, and dosage for carbohydrates consumed. Higher...

    Lost and found

...in my Berlingo camper I met an Italian woman some miles down from Roncesvalles with really bad knee - then she remembered she had left her insulin kit on her bunk at Roncesvalles! I took her back to collect. I guess the top tip for losses here - don't go on Camino with anything important to...

    Minimise backpack weight.

I read the first post with a heavy heart. I could save a few kilograms if I got rid of that. 😃

    Keeping biologics (Amgevita/Humira) cold

Hi Kiwikid, I also have a biologic to think about for travel this year 2024, it is Enbrel for Rheumatoid arthritis. Pre-filled syringes which I take weekly. I have a travel pack that is frozen before-hand but will probably be defrosted between leaving Sydney and arriving in Spain. Information...

    Keeping biologics (Amgevita/Humira) cold

I have had the same problem on two Caminos. I had to have friends post my Humira every second week to a hotel. The first time, it worked pretty well. I packed 3 injections in 3 separate boxes and left them in the refrigerator at a friend's place in Barcelona. They couriered a package, with a...

    Keeping biologics (Amgevita/Humira) cold

I used to be on Humira. Had to inject every 2 weeks. The Pens were always shipped to me packed in Dry Ice (from the other side of the country). I wonder if packing it in Dry Ice is an option.

    Keeping biologics (Amgevita/Humira) cold

...keeping their biologics (I'm on Amgevita, which is the same drug as Humira) cold for so long? I've used Frio pouches when I travel for my insulin, but I'm newly on a biologic for Crohn's and I don't think they would keep it cold enough... Any other people's experiences would be hugely helpful!

Just remember your insulin needs will change DRASTICALLY between your everyday life, and when you're walking for 8 hours a day.

    insulin inquiry

Hi James, I'm still in the planning stages of my own Camino, but I was in Spain this past September when my insulin pump failed so I needed to start taking Lantus in addition to my regular fast-acting insulin. I was able to get insulin pens at the pharmacy without a prescription - not sure if...

James, I am an insulin dependent diabetic and completed the whole of the Frances last year in July/Aug. I carried my insulin with me in a FRIO holdall. Simple to use as all you have to do is submerse it in water and the chemicals react and keeps your insulin cool. Someone else mentioned medical...
