I love Malaga, great city with marble pedestrian streets , right on the Med.

San Anton albergue - new astronomical viewing area

Sounds like an April fool's joke to me? They will have to make sure no masonry drops on visitor's heads? I was almost killed by falling rocks in 2016.

Pamplona to Logroño OR Palas de Rei to Santiago

Definitely Pamplona to Logronó. Stop at Puente la Reina , Lorca , Estella , Torres del Rio , Viana even Azqueta just to mention a few. Ruby red vino , good food , temperate weather as opposed to Galicia where it can rain for weeks on end. Less pilgrims , plenty of places to stay as this route...

The Spanish Game of the the Goose.

Last night I was pontificating about the Camino Frances and San Bol came to mind. Years ago San Bol had a version of 'Snakes and Ladders' game painted on the walls outside, The goose featured quite frequently. At first I thought it had some sort of Pagan like origins but then I was treated to a...

    CF Changing the starting location?

The same question has been asked many times even this last month. I for one start off from Pamplona , I even take the number 10 bus to get out of the city and get off at Cizur Menor. That way I walk straight into the countryside. My Camino , my prerogative.;)

Free breakfast at the Parador in Santiago?

20 years ago on my first Camino a fellow pilgrim told me that the first six pilgrims queing at the staff entrance in the morning armed with their compostela certificates would be treated to a full breakfast. Anyone know or is it just folklore?

Picking grapes from vineyards along the way

More than one pilgrim have told me that the first row was planted especially for pilgrims , BULLSHINE!! And they are really not what I would call edible? The waste must be significant.
  9. Painting in Viana on the staircase to the library

Painting in Viana on the staircase to the library

This painting can be found in Viana on the staircase to the library. I particularly like what I would call the impressionist style. The scene may just be looking towards Viana from close to the Ermita de la Virgin de la Cuevas?

    Pamplona suggestions needed.

I can recommend this hostel , been returning for 15 years and the cheapest in town.

    Bed bugs

My Bud , come on? You are out of line here , It was not my fault that I was bitten , it almost sounds as if I never showered and I was dirty and There was a young lady that I walked with and she was also bitten?
  13. RENSHAW

Longest sections of Camino Frances without facilities

that Condes stretch always felt more than 17 km. Once I set up a free feast for pilgrims on this route It was in protest to that Englishman who had charged me €3 for the vilest coffee from his van on Alto Perdón in 2003!
  14. RENSHAW

    Favorite “Mid Stage” Albergues

Well , you have had some excellent replies so all of them I support. Tores is wonderful , Viana is brilliant and is a small city, Bobillio el al camino on the meseta , so many places , WHY PLAN?
  15. RENSHAW

    Bed bugs

Do you know that the USA has a far bigger problem than Spain, In 20 years on the camino I have been bitten twice. Remember it is you that carries those bugs that is why as Hospis we insist that there are no packs are allowed on beds. One cannot blame the Albergue as the must have come from...

How much do You stretch each day?

So you see it is an hour a day before you get started?
  17. RENSHAW

How much do You stretch each day?

Not a stupid question but we have a restriction as one walks so far each day. Perhaps it is good to stretch along the Way as one continues.

    Artists on Camino

when I was Hospi at San Anton a lady checked in and had enough time to create a watercolor , you see time is of the essence as well . look carefully as there a lot of detail which is not immediately apparent. Top left are our owls . one female and a male. The mother at 4am would bring them live...
