    Taxis to Tui

I put my pack in a taxi and sent it to the albergue I’d booked. This was in 2018, I think I gave the driver €10 to include a tip. Then I walked to Tui unencumbered. It is an easy walk, and it’s fun walking through the fort at Valenca. It’s flat, and takes barely an hour.

    Samos start?

I walked from Samos to Barbadelo, and I stopped in Sarria for an early lunch. Then as I left I called in at both churches on the hill to get sellos, and I also called into the monastery (?) right at the top of the hill on the right before walking the last 3km to Barbadelo. There’s also a very...

    Daily distances below 15km

You can do it on the Ingles as well. It just takes a bit more planning, and some days you may need to take a taxi or backtrack a bit to reach your accommodation but it's certainly possible.

Starting in Valenca and getting a first stamp at Porto Cathedral

I did exactly that. It wasn’t a problem at all. I had at least 2 stamps each day from Valenca, and that is where a distance certificate will count from if you choose to request one.

Luggage transport from Valenca do Minho train station to Porrino

Not quite the answer to your question, but when I arrived at Valenca station, I put my pack in a taxi and sent it by itself to my booked albergue in Tui while I walked through the Castillo and over the bridge. I then used Camino Facil for the next several days. You might be able to arrange...

    Accommodation during Rugby World Cup

I was in le Puy 2 days ago, France were playing Uruguay (watched it on tv in a bar). We had no problem finding a small apartment just down from the cathedral steps - booking it only last week. In fact the main focus of the city was the festival of The King of the Birds, which apparently causes...

For Sale/Wanted Hands-free Hiking Umbrella for sale (UK)

I gave you my Paypal address in the message, so if you send payment via that, and let me have your address (don't post it here, message me back in the conversation) - that's all that needs doing from your end. If you don't have Paypal, you could do a bank transfer.

For Sale/Wanted Hands-free Hiking Umbrella for sale (UK)

(Moderators - please delete if this isn't allowed here) I have a hiking umbrella by Euroschirm which I've only used once, and as it's just sitting in a cupboard I'd like to pass it on to someone who will get some use from it. It's 450g, silver on top to reflect the sun, spf50, and waterproof...

Weather in March, Camino Frances, Leon-Santiago - your experience?

In 2017 i left Astorga in hot sunshine, needing sunscreen and mopping sweat with my buff - a few days later I woke in Laguna di Castillo (sp?) to six inches of snow. Those few km up to O Cebreiro were quite magical, as was the village under deep snow, but not long after that it became tiring and...

Help No accomodation in Hospital de Bruma

Two years ago I had trouble finding a bed in those places. I booked a room at Hotel Barreiro 3km up the road to Ordes. I took a taxi there from meson do Vento, and then another to Bruma next morning. The hotel was actually rather pleasant. They offered a pilgrim meal which was good - there were...

    Bilbao to SJPDP?

In September 2015 I went from Bilbao to Pamplona by bus, which think it was Autobus La Union, I bought the ticket at the bus station. Two hours to Pamplona, arriving around 3pm, where I put my backpack in a locker and walked into the city (it’s only a few hundred metres) for a glass of wine...

Is this Valid - or would it be cheating?

This was my plan B, but I found myself walking with others and the excitement kicked in and I didn’t want to stop! There’s a bar and shopping centre at the top of the hill at Milladorio where you’d have no problem getting a taxi, it’s still around 7km to the cathedral from there. If you do...

    Earplugs!

If you’re serious about buying earplugs in bulk - or if someone else reading this might be, then Laser Lite by somebody called Leight can be bought in various size packs from amazon. Cheap, cheerful, and do the job!

6 full days to walk, what route?

I found the Portuguese from Valenca (only a few km from Tui, but it’s a great place to start and cross the river into Spain) much more sociable when I walked in 2018, with many albergues to choose from. I walked the Ingles in October 2021 and found it very solitary. I hardly saw anyone else...

    Restaurant in O Porriño

I also suggest this restaurant. It was recommended to me by the owner of the albergue Peregrina - it’s run by a family member. I enjoyed my meal there one Sunday afternoon. All the other customers seemed to be local families, all dressed up for a meal out .

Not your usual question about hiking poles

I’m in the UK so not quite the same situation. I’ve posted my poles to albergues along the Frances twice, and they’ve always been waiting for me when I arrived. That was before Brexit. In 2021 I posted my poles to a hostal in Ferrol. They weren’t waiting for me. I bought some €5 poles from a...

    New jacket - Revolutionary Race

I love my RR jacket, I’ve had it for 2 years now. Think it might be the cyclone? It’s warm, wind proof, waterproof, pretty good breathability, has lots of pockets, and is great for local hiking. But it is bulky, and there are many lighter jackets around. I wouldn’t take it on a Camino. However...

How Important Was It To You To Do "Full" CF ?

I walked in stages because I thought if I waited until I had the time to do it in one go, I’d not have the energy or health to do so. It was more important to me to get to the Camino and make a start rather than wait. From September 2015 to April 2017 I walked over 5 stages, from 5 days to 2...

Help needed - getting from Dublin to Estella

I did a similar Camino a few years ago walking a week or so at a time. I’m in England with Heathrow and Bristol as my nearby airports. However I found Bilbao the most convenient airport in Spain to fly into and out of (at least as far as Carrion de los Condos, after that it was Madrid), It’s...
