Buying comfortable shoes for Hiking or ...?

You can try googling the name of the place + weather + month, to find out if it tends to be dry or rainy. For example "Serengeti+weather+october" or things like that. It will help you plan. Personally, I prefer shoes without goretex, as my feet get too hot with them. If it's cold, I just wear...

To take a quilt or not

Unfortunately, you'll have to take something warmer in October just in case. You could possibly get around that by just planning to stay in hotels nights when the weather gets cold. But sometimes the Albergues are surprisingly cold.

Walking in October - does it differ much from May / June?

I concur with @dreaming as I walked at the same time. First half of October was very hot. But, of course the weather has been very hot and miss this year so it would be impossible to say really. It was snowing over 2000m near Leon last week as an example, which wouldn't be odd in times past.

Saint Jean Pied de Port to Roncesvalles, leaving in the afternoon

There is plenty of hiking on the Camino if we want to look at it this way. But I would like people planning the Napoleon Route to know that they will probably be walking 80% of the time on asphalt (I consider the Ibañeta route to be the default route for most pilgrims). The weather in the...

Alert Alert for Norte after Soto de Luina!!

Just wanted to update on the Coastal / Ballotas route after walking it today 11 October in dry weather (2 days after heavy rain on Wednesday 09 October). The bottom line is if you have mild weather and don’t mind getting muddy up to your ankle and wet up to your calves, you can have brilliant...

2nd camino in October 2024 - del Norte or Frances? General questions

Hi All, It's nice to be here. I would like to ask for a little help as I'm planning on doing my 2nd Camino this October. I have a small experience - 5 years ago I did Camino de San Salvador with my dad and this time I would love to try something on my own. This time something longer and not...

    Suggest a route

October is a very nice time to walk on the Camino Frances, or in fact, almost any route. Sure, Galicia will have rain. You want to go prepared for virtually any weather.

    October Camino - shorts?

I walked the CF last October. Two weeks of hot weather above 30 degrees Celsius and two weeks of solid rain. I don't wear shorts walking because of skim cancers however changed into merino wool T-shirt and shorts after showering in the hot weather plus wore them to bed.

Camino Vasco through the hills and mountains, called Saiatz trail.

Considering that the pilgrims donativo hostel in Beasain closes in ending October, are you sure you'd like to walk the vasco interior in ending October or November? This is their mobile phone if you'd need some more info. 0034 74748677 In Gipuzkoa, Days with precipitation account for more than...

Lucca to Rome on Via Francigina

No, you won’t see many pilgrims. But I’m sure it’s a good time to walk (good weather).

    October Camino - shorts?

My wife and I walked from SJPP to Burgos in the first half of October a couple years ago. We worn shorts walking nearly every day. Actually hit some pretty hot weather in October. So, I’d definitely bring shorts and leave one pair of long pants out. It’s a great time of year to walk. Buen Camino!

Ourense Thermal Baths - worth a visit?

Wondering what the weather might be like late September early October........

Mid-Oct 2025 Primitivo - grateful for any planning thoughts.

For planning, Gronze is the sine qua non. It functions as a kind of Wiki: users (mainly Spanish) and the site owners are continually updating it. It isn´t infallible but the information on it is pretty well always more topical than anybody else´s. It will give dates of when albergues close for...

    Hello from London 👋

Hello donutqueen; from where to Finisterre? If from Santiago, it can be done but you’ll be doing long walks each day. (BTW, nice ID pic. I have a similar one here, facing the other way! 😂)

    Planning around Semana Santa 2025

Don’t tell everyone! I’m next on Camino October 1. I simply wouldn’t consider April to September on the popular routes.

Saint Jean Pied de Port to Roncesvalles, leaving in the afternoon

On my 1994, I was walking an average 42K/day, and had about a month of the Camino already in my legs. I left SJPP at about 11AM, and just barely made it to the Albergue in Roncesvalles in time. I was averaging about 6kph on the flat. But that was in July or August. Sunset will be much...

Starting 1st Camino next week (October 20)

Hi All, after having followed this community for many month I finally signed-up. I am starting my 1st Camino next week and have about one month time. I have read a lot about all the different routes and experiences, the pro's and con's of each route, and haven't fully made up my mind yet. My...

    Weight, Heat, Humidity

It is generally hottest after mid-day. That's why a lot of people get up very early to walk. You may want to limit your mileage due to weather conditions and it is important to drink a lot of water. We try to walk shorter distances and don't walk past 1 pm. As September wears on into October...

Camino Primitivo in Early October - Seeking Advice

Aeote, not knowing your long distance hiking experience, and noting your concerns on language and terrain, why not just take the Frances from, say, Leon? Also, if you're going to train from Barcelona, I'll bet my paycheck that you go through Madrid...
