Choosing First Camino Route - Mid October Start

I started in SJPDP on October 19, 2022. I only pre-booked SJ and Borda. (Orrison was closed but Borda was open.). There were several days of rain but that was no issue. I finished on November 26. Then took a bus to Porto and stayed there a few days before taking a train to Lisbon. From there I...

Starting point - Vigo or Tui

Just for fun you could start in Valença so that you could walk over the international bridge/border from Portugal to Spain, enjoy Tui and then catch a bus to Vigo.

Albergues & Bars closing in October.

I started from SJPDP on October 19, 2022. Orrison was closed but Borda was open and there was never a problem after that all the way to Santiago. Multiple days of rain.

    Burgos to Bilbao

I took a morning train from Burgos to Bilbao for about €20. The trip did not take much more than an hour. You can catch a bus from the train station to the main bus station in town. It’s about a mile walk from the bus station to the Guggenheim. I took s walking tour of the Bilbao old town...

LIVE from the Camino Credential on Sunday in Porto

I was at the cathedral Friday night at 6:30 and it was closed. I wasn’t sure if it would be open on Saturday morning, but it was at 9 AM. I was in and out in less than two minutes and it was already stamped.

    Charles de Gaulle to SJPP

I did the CDC terminal switch Dulles>CDC>Biarritz in October 2022. It took 1:45 to get through customs and change terminals for Air France. There is an airport tarmac bus ride to change terminals that feels like it will never end. Made it though. 😁

Bathroom stops from Santiago to Porto via bus

I took the Alsa bus from Santiago to Porto last October. There were no stops longer than 5 minutes, but there was a toilet on the bus. It was unmarked but next to the exit door about halfway to the back of the bus on the passenger side.

Camino Frances, what to expect in October

Sue, I walked the the CF last October 19-November 24. It was cool over the Pyrenees, hot from Pamplona to Leon, and rainy from Ponferrada to Santiago. It rained every day during the last 10 days and once it was torrential all day long. Nonetheless, we all had a great time. Buen Camino.

    Plans Cancelled!!!

I started in SJPD last October 19 (2022). There was very little crowd at all. No complications getting beds. I finished in Santiago on November 24 and only 166 pilgrims picked up compostellas that day. Consider going a little later in the year. Orrison closed the week before I started but...
