IaOro, welcome to the forum; it is good to have you with us. I think you should post this as a new thread titled something like: "Have any Insulin Dependent Diabetics walked the Camino". I believe you will get a much better response.

Hello! So excited to be walking the Camino this September with my husband and old friends! Insulin refilled

I'm a type one insulin dependent diabetic and walked in 2016. I carried insulin in a Frio pack, which kept it plenty cool for April/May temps. With the frio packs, they are a gel that needs to be kept soaked in water. Mine never dried out. I over-soaked it, actually, and the crystals expand to...

    Insulin refilled

...various methods they used to find refrigeration along the way. If the place you are staying overnight has a refrigerator, ask to put your insulin in it. If you have a cold bag and need ice, ask at any bar / cafe. In a pinch, a friend even went to the local police station and asked to put...

    Insulin refilled

I would guess it would depend on how much insulin she needs and if her needs change based on the physicality of the trip. My daughter-in-law is a Type 1 and she has different insulin needs based on how "in control" of her blood sugars is she is and what she is doing. Additionally, her insulin...

Prescription drugs that needs to be refrigerated?

...and there are a couple of other links within the thread as well. https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/diabetic-walk-how-to-keep-insulin-cool.24523/#post-189880 Regarding pricing in Spain - medication prices in Spain are also pretty low, but you're right, you probably can't count...

    Class of 2018

...booking ahead is a good idea, you can do that as soon as you have booked your flights. A few weeks beforehand should be enough. As for the insulin, I would take what you need and then triple that. It really isn't worth the hassle to get the right kind of insulin and, in the worst of cases...

    Meat and Vegetable Diet

...- different molecular structures. There are simple sugars, complex carbs, and fiber. The simple sugars are the ones that trigger the most insulin response; but complex carbs also trigger insulin. There are some excellent books on this subject. One is "Good Calorie, Bad Calorie" by Gary Taubes.

    Lost feeling in toe

...feeling in both sets of toes - and did not get it back for many months after I finished. It has not happened since. I wonder if it might be a precursor to diabetes. I was definitely insulin resistant at the time. Many years later and much, much fitter; the Camino is a life saver in many...
