1 Week to go. SHOE FEARS

You might want to try Engo patches on the spots where you are getting friction. Another insole to look it are these New Balance Pressure relief insoles.

Footwear conundrums (like all who have gone before me)

Enjoy your newfound hobby of hiking footwear shopping ;) warning - it's addictive! For the red mark on your heel you may want to check out Engo patches. They are pricey and there are lots of alternatives (just search 'Engo' on this forum) but I have used them for years and had 3 that lasted me...

    I'm a commitment phobe...

...a couple of blisters on the balls of my feet that started earlier in the week when walked about 11 miles in my Skechers running shoes (sans socks, because that's how I always wear them). I'm hoping that the Superfeet solve that problem, but I've ordered some Engo patches from Amazon just in case.

Top of new shoe rubbing ankle

...then give it time. Your foot might be slipping slightly forward and backward with each step in the shoe, and a heel-locking or lace-locking technique might help with that. You might also try using an ENGO patch right at the point of rubbing. If these fail, you may simply need a different shoe.

    Latest blister prevention technique

...especially in a moist sock environment. Also, as a side comment, taping blister-prone areas is in many respects the same premise as using Engo patches, which have a much longer usable lifespan and require minimal maintenance. As such, I still think the first defense is proper fit, good...

New shoes at the last minute

You might also think about putting an ENGO patch on the inside of your shoes as well And trail runners take no time at all to break-in; just put them on and start walking

    Blister patches

I belive you can remove them if you first apply heat, ie via hairdryer, but doubt if you can then reposition them. I have found that before you press them firmly into place it is possible to lift and reposition.

    Blister patches

Hi Victoria, I haven't tried them yet, but I doubt that they can be re-positioned.

    Blister patches

Is it easy to take Engo patches off? For example, if I want to move them a bit from the original place I've attached them.

    Blister patches

sure does but I've found that the Engo patches outlast even duct tape and just work better for me.

    Blister patches

    Duct tape works.

    Blister patches

I bought some Engo patches after listening to Dave Whitson's podcast on blisters. They are expensive! I'm not using mine until I'm sure about my shoes and/or innersoles, I was thinking the same - there must be some type of tape, super smooth and with good stick.

    Blister patches

The Engo patches are primarily to prevent blisters rather than treat them. I purchased a pack recently and applied one to my new boots where I was getting a hotspot on my heel. No further problems. I can see that the theory of them providing a friction-free area makes great sense. They are...

    Blister patches

I used Compeed when I did the Coast to Coast walk in Northern England last summer. They were tremendous. So much more effective than moleskin.

    Blister patches

I have not tried these but I think they may worth looking into - they adhere to the footwear not the foot. Has anyone had any experiences these? Engo Blister patches

    Using Insoles

Does anyone know if Engo patches are sold in Espana?
  18. Magwood

    Using Insoles

That's really interesting, thanks for the link. Good to see that wrapping the Engo patch around the insole stays put and didn't cause the ridge to be more of a problem. I now feel more confident in using this method if needed. These lower heel blisters have always been a problem for me...

    Using Insoles

Hi Les I posted an image of my insole and engo patch after 44 Camino days here

    Using Insoles

I kept getting hotspots/blisters on the ball of the big toe despite Icebreaker merino socks and liners. The Engo patches worked like a charm. No problem now.
