Camino Vasco through the hills and mountains, called Saiatz trail.

I was on the Vasco (Irun to Vitoria-Gasteiz) last Nov-Dec and I did not see any other pilgrims. Plenty of local walkers, bike riders, etc and all wished me a good morning in Basque, no "Buen Caminos" for the 6 days. The only part where I felt alone was on the stretch from Zegama to San Adrian...

    Rain jacket recommendations

I love my Marmot PreCip Eco rain jacket. It's on sale ($75) now at REI so I just picked up another one to keep in the trunk of my car.

Buy walking poles in Madrid or Sarria?

There is a sporting goods store in Sarria on Rua Arrabaldo that carries walking poles and walking staffs/sticks. The store is directly on the Camino at the bottom of the street with the long stairs.

    Walking in Rain

I like Prana Stretch Zion pants, but they have gotten pricey. Last Camino I went with Adidas Tiro training track pants.

Camino Survey: Effects on Health, Wellbeing, Life Satisfaction, and Flourishing

I agree with those above that by labeling it a transformative journey, assumes that everyone undergoes a transformation. Many may have no long term inpacts or changes.

    Walking in Rain

I think that it comes down to personal preference. Some people prefer a poncho while others like me prefer a jacket and pack cover. I stopped wearing rain pants a few years ago and just wear quick-drying pants with a light rain jacket w/hood. I haven't had any issues with my pack cover...

Walking Camino Vasco Interior in March

I think it is very reasonable. I walked it last December and had a great time. Buen Camino!

Shuttle from Bilbao to San Sebastian

Very easy to navigate also. Once you pass the baggage return and exit the secure part of the airport, make a right turn and proceed to the end. There are a couple of machines there (look like ATMs) to purchase tickets for the next bus (every 15 min after the hour). I used a debit card for my...

Flying a drone on the camino

Download the "ENAIRE Drones" app which shows airspace regulations for all locations in Spain. The one place I wanted to fly and film with my drone in Spain (non-camino related) is a no-fly zone due to protection of local birds. Other than that, I have seen plenty of YouTubers filming parts of...

    changing paths

It rains some in June, but nothing like the winter months. Either option should be fine. I prefer a lightweight rain jacket because I can also use it as a windbreaker in the evenings (or cold mornings), but whichever is lightest would probably be best. I doubt you will use either much. Enjoy!

    How to get to Sarria

Train (Renfe) from Chamartin Station in Madrid to Sarria. Several trains a day. Some direct and some require a connection.

    Sarria back to Madrid airport

Still too early for tickets to be available. You can get an idea of the timetables now, they do not tend to change too much.

Wise Debit Card on the Camino

I am unfamiliar with Wise, but you can also check out Charles Schwab. They refund all ATM fees, so they are very popular for travel. It is my "go-to" debit card for travel.

    REI Sale

I ordered another Outdoor Research Echo Hoodie (different color). A super lightweight and thin layer that I wear in different situations. Highly recommend. Also a pair of KUHL pants. I like them and they are on sale. How about you?

    Altra Experience Wild

So they were just OK and after a short day hike have been returned. The footbed not as comfortable as the Lone Peaks and Olympus. The footbed might get more comfortable with some more miles, but more importantly the sizing was off. I wear a 12 in everything except my longer distance hiking...

    Altra Experience Wild

The new "Experience" line from Altra looks interesting. Has anybody tried them yet? I will order a pair of Altra Experience Wild and report back after some day hikes. They have the traditional, comfortable Altra wide footbed with a good stack hike at 32mm with a 4mm drop. I think the drop is...

Maybe a little late with my planning for le Puy...

If you haven't already, check out the "On the Trail with Bart" YT page. He started the Le Puy last month and is on the Frances now. He has been daily vlogging, starting from getting to the Le Puy and still going. He does a good job of showing the landscape, accommodations, services, etc.

    Piecemeal camino question

If you had 6 days I would say Astorga, because I loved it there! The Gronze website shows starting in Foncebadon will get you to Sarriai in 5 stages. Astorga is easy to get to by train, and I'm sure you could bus it to Foncebadon. If you want to try another Camino, the entire Camino Ingles...
