    Hoping to walk again.....

I'm glad you're returning to finish, pain or no pain! Best of luck and keep us posted.

    Congratulations, Mark, what an accomplishment!

    Hoping to walk again.....

OTH86, thank you, this is very helpful and encouraging. I'll look into the exercises you mention. One thing I'm finding challenging is knowing whether an exercise is too much and will hurt a compromised joint, or whether pushing through some stiffness and pain will be strengthening. Running and...

    Hoping to walk again.....

This is wonderful advice, Backpack45. Really encouraging. You are right and so is Mark Twain, no use worrying, better to work at getting stronger, including with thoughts toward the future.

    Hoping to walk again.....

Yes, weight is key on those poor delicate knees...I notice my knee hurts more when I'm carrying a heavy bag of groceries. I am hoping I can carry my beloved 15 lb. backpack again, though. We'll see.

    Encouraging advice, thank you!

    Hoping to walk again.....

Thank for this, Icacos! My husband had a total hip replacement, and he's had great results with it. I've also read that walking can help against osteoarthritis. The inclination is to baby a joint in pain by not moving it, but that's not the right way to go from what I'm reading...

    Hoping to walk again.....

Thank you for writing, Falcon. A 5 km max would be a hard one for me to accept! 15 km, ok, that distance gives you a daily rhythm of covering some ground and getting somewhere...Have you had the experience of limited ability to walk distance after repairs and rehab? Seems like there's not a...

Cumulus V Enlightened bags and quilts?

I was glad to have my Enlightened quilt walking the Frances mid-April to mid-May, but I sent it home after that since my silk liner was enough in albergues. I just put on leggings and a microfleece if it was a little chilly. (I'm also a cold sleeper.) Yes, many albergues do have blankets. I...

    Hoping to walk again.....

Thank you got this information, Tom. I will message you. I’m doing PT and hoping that my knee gets better over time, but also don’t want to lose years waiting.

    Hoping to walk again.....

Hello again, Camino friends! I've been off the Forum for months, but have been thinking about the Camino every day as I continue to paint and write from my memories of the Frances and Invierno in 2016. I was planning to hike from Porto to Santiago last fall--and to hike a Camino every year for...

    I just don't get it!

That was Alto de Faro, and you're right, it wasn't all day along turbines, it just felt like it. There's a long climb up to the ridge with the turbines, and up to the "Stations of the Cross". I can't comment personally on the other Caminos as I haven't walked them. I actually didn't find the...

Anyone had Baker's Cyst knee problems?

How are you doing now, Anemone? Hope you are walking ok again.

Anyone had Baker's Cyst knee problems?

Here's an update three months later! I didn't have a baker's cyst, it was a "bone bruise" probably caused by running up hills when I started a jogging program last spring. (Just walking for me from now on!) Bone bruises, it turns out, take a very long time to heal. I spent the summer on crutches...

    I just don't get it!

I walked the Invierno last year, and I have to say I'm not surprised by the statistics you cite, Laurie. For one thing, I agree with others that many who walk the Invierno probably don't get a Compostela for it. I didn't, for one. I also agree with others that folks may be put off by the...

Looking for Camino warmth: Which route to choose?

Sulu, which Portuguese route did you walk?

Nervous wreck looking to start mid-August 2017

@sue-sheila, the advice you'll get from most folks who have walked the Camino is--don't bring a carry on PLUS a backpack. You'd be one of the few people doing that, and for good reason. It will be a pain in the neck to be trying to keep track of all that gear, plus you don't need all that gear...

Nervous wreck looking to start mid-August 2017

Lots of good advice here. Not sure if anyone mentioned using an app on your phone to book ahead. I was a late-leaver and a slow walker who didn't want to rush during the day, so I would usually book ahead with the Wise Pilgrim Camino Frances app on my iphone. I would just book for that night...
