    Civil war memorials

This is a fascinating issue but one best left to the Spaniards to resolve. Outsiders may have their opinions (I'm looking at you, Ernest Hemingway, George Orwell, et. al.) but at the end of the day, it's a family dispute.

Pilgrim passport in Vigo on Saturday

I never tried to get a credencials book in Spain, although I know that the cathedral in Porto has them. But my wife and I did spend a good hour or so in Vigo trying to get a church to stamp our credencials book in 2018. We tried two: Maria Auxliadora and Santiago de Vigo. At the first, we found...

    Seeking info on Portuguese Camino

In terms of the routes going north from Porto, the choice is roughly coastal/littoral, central or some combination. There are many threads on this forum devoted to that topic but it comes down, in the end, to personal preferences. Here's one thread from earlier in the year...

    Stops

One other app I would suggest is Wise Pilgrim Camino Portuguese. That would answer all your questions about the routes, shows distances between towns, and identify potential lodging places along the way. But to answer your questions, yes to the first two, not sure if there's a proper trail...

    Stops

One suggestion for keeping your dates straight is to use an app called Tripit. It enables you to look at your phone and view, in one place, all your reservations in the correct order. We use it for every trip we make.

    The yellow road

It's going to be like that, mostly, until Vigo. But after Vigo you have a nice walk to Redondela through woods overlooking the Vigo estuary. In general, you'll see more vegetation after Vigo because you'll be heading inland.

Getting a credential in Caminha or A Guarda

Booking Accommodation in Advance - Is it Necessary?

Hi Lara. If it was just yourself, winging it might be a feasible strategy, particularly if you're an early riser (no 4 a.m. starts for me, thank you!). But trying to do that with four people could be problematical. What if you reached a place only to discover that they could accommodate one or...

Getting a credential in Caminha or A Guarda

Okay. Caminha has a tourist information office in the old town hall right on the main square. I'd stop there first and explain my situation. They might have some suggestions.

Getting a credential in Caminha or A Guarda

You didn't mention what country you're from or when you're starting, but the easiest option is to order the credentials book from your national association before you leave. Here's an article that might help: https://caminoways.com/where-can-i-get-my-pilgrim-credential

Getting a credential in Caminha or A Guarda

I would check the main church in both towns. Look around for the priest if the building is open. Your best bet, if you're passing through Porto, is to obtain one in the cathedral (Sé do Porto) near the Saõ Bento train station. Boa sorte!

Solo 13 days, Portugues + Variante Espiritual + SDC to Finistera/ Muxia — Which town/ city to start in Portugal?

I was thinking of Póvoa de Verzim, Esposende and particularly Nigrán in Spain. Here are my notes on the latter: "At Nigrán, we encountered the Playa America, one of the largest and most popular beaches in northern Spain, over 1000 meters long and 30 meters wide. This being a Sunday in August...

How to get back to the US on Delta Airlines from Santiago de Compostela

I'm with Grousedoctor and BrianLCrabtree: train to Madrid and then Delta to ATL and SLC. Seems the easiest, most direct way.

From Porto to Sāo Pedro Rates or Barcelos transportation

The Porto metro can take you all the way north to Póvoa de Varzim on the coast. Judging by the map, you can surely then do a short taxi or Uber ride from Póvoa to São Pedro Rates.

Coastal or Central route from Porto?

This is tricky. The most scenic part of the coastal is, roughly, Viana do Costello all the way to Redondela (except for the urban mess in Vigo). For the central, it's more or less from São Miguel de Arcos to Valença/Tui. Is it worth mixing and matching to get the best of both or just stick with...

Solo 13 days, Portugues + Variante Espiritual + SDC to Finistera/ Muxia — Which town/ city to start in Portugal?

Yes, I think that's a fair assessment. The coastal route includes some noisy beach resorts that can detract from the pilgrim vibe. Central is quieter.

Solo 13 days, Portugues + Variante Espiritual + SDC to Finistera/ Muxia — Which town/ city to start in Portugal?

Ponte de Lima would be a good place to start if you want to do the central route to Redondela via Tui. Or, you could start at Viana do Costello, a bit north of where you are now, if you want to do the coastal route via Caminha and Vigo to Redondela. Depends on the type of scenery you want to see...

Need a Pep Talk for the Climb from Combarro to Armenteira

I just checked Weather Channel and can see how you're kind of boxed in: strong chance of rain through Wednesday at least. However, the 97% chance on Monday becomes 83% by Tuesday. Would your schedule allow you to take a day off tomorrow -- Combarro's old town has some good restaurants -- maybe...

Ideas on best places to begin Coastal Route (near border)?

From Porto, you can take the train to Viana do Costello, Vila Praia de Ancora and Caminha, or even up to Valença, if you want to do the central rather than coastal. It all depends on how much time you have and how many km you want to do each day. Caminha and Valença are right on the border, with...
