While you're not doing anything else ... help identify this church!

For a brief moment I wondered if maybe this was the church on the Dragonte where GunnarW rang the bells - See the Radio Buen Camino videos. But when I just watched Part 10 again, and found the church - unfortunately, not that one. Nevermind, I think I'll go back and watch all these videos again!!

Understanding Dragonte - The Ultimate Templar Tribute

Thank you for this ‘pulling together and clarifying’ post. I did read the thread from top to bottom, was absolutely fascinated by it, and a little confused/perplexed by some of the claims and counter-claims. Your post helped to untangle them and I’m grateful to you (and everyone else) for the...

Looking for advice on long (Spanish) Camino routes

...walked both the routes from Barcelona, I would highly recommend the route that goes via Huesca. It would, of course, involve some repetition of part of the Frances route but you could add novelty by including the Invierno route and the Dragonte for an unforgetable day of walking. Happy...

    Camino Must See

...Bierzo, you will have three different options. If you are feeling energetic, I would highly recommend that you take a route known as the Dragonte. It is a wonderful, but challenging, route not to be missed! Certainly remains as one of my all-time favourite days while walking many Camino...

The original Camino Francés from Villafranca del Beirzo.

I'm a member - and walked Ruta Dragonte last summe with my kids. One of the most beautiful camino experiences, I've had.

The original Camino Francés from Villafranca del Beirzo.

You are likely referring to a route known as the Dragonte. It is a wonderful, but challenging, route option from Villafranca del Bierzo. It is not to be missed! Certainly remains as one of my all-time favourite days while walking many Camino routes. You can find very up-to-date and detailed...

    The Dragonte Option

Hi Matt and Patrick, my friends and I walked the Dragonte in May and wrote thank you notes to the both of you. I'd like to send them your way. Can you send me your addresses in a DM (if that's possible on this site? I registered to be able to send this message :)) Bye! Irene from Amsterdam

VF - walking on the side of the highway or on designated paths.

Agree with you completely Tim 😊

Is there any elitism between pilgrims taking different routes?

The Dragonte alternative seems to bring out the macho!

VF - walking on the side of the highway or on designated paths.

I agree with you completely Tim. I view the so called actual trail as merely a suggestion, it isn't set in stone. No-one knows exactly what paths Sigeric took so the trail is just what an organisation has deemed. Same with the guidebooks; the author's path is different again. As you do, I always...

VF - walking on the side of the highway or on designated paths.

...path to the right via Pradela, and there is the main road route (with separate pedestrian track) (and a third alternative to the left, the Dragonte). I did the second in very bad weather one year and was keen to do the first another time when I was walking with my nephew, young and superfit...

Take a look at the map. Maybe you'll find a Camino that suits you...

What would the most alternate Francés route look like?

...at Pamplona, include the detour to Eunate, Los Arcos via Luquin, the Camino Real out of Sahagun, the rarer southern variant out of Leon, the Dragonte out of Villafranca del Bierzo, take in a handful of those "complementary" caminos that they sign all over the place in Galicia, or possibly...

...situation I had at the municipal in Ocebreiro ,and how monetized the Camino can be... I started the day out of Villafranca to Ocebreiro via Dragonte, sufficed to say when I got there, I was a bit tired and was mulling over the idea that I deserved a reward. So after checking in at the...

    Del Norte advice

I haven’t walked the CF in a long time but if you like variants then you picked the right Camino. There are variants to the variants on the Norte. It is beautiful. Especially if you like looking at the sea. It is tougher than the CF. I have heard in the summer, I walked in fall, it cN be tougher...

    Del Norte advice

Thanks H. On the CF I was averaging about 25km a day and I tend to take the alternative path when there was one, (eg, the Dragonte after Villafranca on the CF was a must for me!).

    Rain covers for shoes

IMO it’s not needed, nor gaiters for that matter. The trail is groomed, on the Dragonte there were prickly’s but it’s such a short hike that even if you decide to do it, it doesn’t warrant the extra unneeded weight. Your not going to be hiking, I should say walking, in a damp wet environment...

Camino Dragonte: Villafranca del Bierzo to O Cebreiro

Hi everyone, It has been almost 3 years since my walk on the Dragonte route, so I wanted to revisit this thread. It makes me so happy to see that my writeup has been read and used as a resource for so many other pilgrims! I haven't read my writeup for quite some time but was filled with...

    Catalan Camino and Loyola Route

...correct. We will be walking from Barcelona to Montserrat. And, yes, it is difficult. (Perhaps not as challenging as our diversion on the Dragonte route last year, but challenging to be sure.) We did this last spring and I have written a description that you can find in the Catalan Camino...

    Photographing the Camino

...and every time. I myself approach art through research and on the Francés I am interested in the less traveled path; alternate routes like Dragonte, Pradela, rio ucieza routes, etc. but also sections of the old roman road that have been well maintained or restored-- Outside of Puente...
