    Scenic route from Villafranca

Is that alternative route called the Dragonte?

Would it be worth it to photograph the whole Camino Frances

...to walk but can't. Regarding the Camino, it would probably make more sense to have something like that for the lesser walked routes and variants, instead of video #10000000 of the standard Frances. I'd totally watch a detailed full walk of the Dragonte! Maybe then I'd dare to walk it one day!

Detour to see the Eunate Church

Also, I have always regretted not taking the Variant to Samos...that said, I do not regret not taking the variant Dragontes out of Vilafranca del Bierzo, although I read it is better marked than in the past.🙄...but I digress.

Virtual/planning thread: Caminos Girona, Catalán, and Aragonés - Part 2: Montserrat - Santa Cilia

...is a narrow path and nothing between you and the long decline to the bottom. Despite all of this, it is a spectacular Camino stage and is highly recommended. I would not say that it was my most challenging day of walking on various Camino routes: that honour belongs to walking the Dragonte.

LIVE from the Camino Albergue Lama

...lovely. As was the coffee and cake i had at the Albergue Lamas. On a second CF i would likely chose that route again, or would take the Dragonte route, but would likely never walk the valley. (Maybe that particular day is connected to "suffering" in my memory because after Pradela i carried...

LIVE from the Camino Albergue Lama

It on an alternative route of the Camino de Santiago, known as "Camino Duro" (The Hard Camino) that starts in Villafranca del Bierzo and goes to Pradela. https://alberguelamas.business.site/?utm_source=gmb&utm_medium=referral

LIVE from the Camino Albergue Lama

Am I correct that there are 3 routes out of Villafranca? It looks like the Dragonte route is the steepest, the Pereje route the least attractive, and the Pradela route somewhere in between. I like mountain walks but not looking for a "suffer fest" so likely to chose the Pradela. Any thoughts...

LIVE from the Camino Albergue Lama

Caution: The walk from Villafranca to Pradela is incredibly beutiful, but also called the "camino duro", the hard way. For a reason. I loved it, but i guess it is not for everyone. (Or put differently, if you think of SJPDP to Roncesvalles as "a nice walk over some mountains", consider taking...

LIVE from the Camino Albergue Lama

Thanks, Jill. Oh yes, I just looked on my Brierley map and I see it is a variant on the right side of the road after Villafranca, not on the more difficult Dragonte route on the left side.

No, it’s in Pradela on the Ruta Pradela. Hmm, I MUST do that route one day . . .

Mountain walk? Were you walking on the Dragonte variant? Is that where Albergue Lamas is?

    Guthook Guides, is it reliable?

...or errant in the Guthook app, please send them a note. I can attest to them being interested in hearing from users. I asked them to add the Dragonte route and received a nice email from the COO. It will be added once they have an accurate file for the path. I also asked about adding the new...

Bought an Albergue - Living the Dream?

Wow well done Suzi. I unfortunately have walked the alterntives, Dragonte twice and the one up behind you to avoid the highway. (LOVE the dragonte) Good luck.

1st time Camino. Starting Frances 26th Sep

...the Camino in several trips. Started SJPDP in 2017. Starting again tomorrow at Villafranca, del Bierzo( initially with an alternative route called Ruta Dragonte). I get the impression that about half of the Albergues are open. It's very quiet. Like you I have backup with some bivy gear and a...

Band of Trudgers - Virtual Camino

I missed it! Following the Camino on W4F doesn’t take you past it. Steps take me to Dragonte, but maybe I’ll back track for Pereje

Understanding Dragonte - The Ultimate Templar Tribute

...of the people think they are 100% correct 100% of the time. In this case all of the people had some of the info correct and there wasn't any major disagreements. I've not walked the Dragonte route, but some friends have and they said it was brutal. I'll walk it one day, it is a "bucket list"...
