Camino Portugese Interior

Has anyone walked this Camino? I'm starting preparation for a May start in Viseu. Any guidance is appreciated!

I walked it in May 2022. It's a great little camino, off the beaten track but with a surprising number of albergues (mostly municipals in converted schools).

Wendy and I are in Viseu and we’re excited to start walking the Caminho Português Interior tomorrow!

It’s the first time we’ve been to Viseu, so we’re spending a couple of nights here before we start. We visited the cathedral yesterday, but there was a service in progress so we’ll go back today for further explorations and hopefully a stamp.

We’ve seen a lot of official signposts with arrows and shells around town, and the owner of the place we’re staying in has walked several caminos including the CPI. So even though this is another ‘remote’ camino where we don’t expect to meet many...

I’ve not walked the Camino Portugues Interior but I have visited Viseu. There is a wonderful farmstay just south of the city, Quinta dos Tres Rios (https://minola.co.uk/). The British owner-operators, Hugh & Jane Forestier-Walker, are lovely, warm people. Also founts of information about the Dao region and central Portugal. A great place to get acclimated and worth a detour!

My wife and I are excited about walking the CPI from Coimbra to Chaves in April this year. I was inspired by @jungleboy writings and podcasts so I encourage you to check out what he has to say. I’ve used Wikiloc quite a bit to plan routes off the main trail because I wanted to walk a max of 28km per day (preferable no more than 24km), to avoid long steep hills and to stay in rooms instead of hostels. We’re also taking a slight detour to visit the thermal spa at Termes Sao Pedro do Sul. Feel free to check out my planned stages on Wikiloc under KGBurk.
