Last year’s broken leg on CP

I was about halfway through CP last May when my leg gave out. I followed directions from farmacia but no relief, they thought it was a strained ligament. I took taxi/bus/trains hoping some rest would allow me to recover. In Pontevedra the hospital did xray and didn’t detect my broken bone. I hobbled into the Carhedral 5 days later knowing I would not be satisfied till I completed my Camino. So now I am healed and doing leg strengthening exercises to prepare for my return in May. We will pick up exactly where we left off, in Caminha. I also realize I am older than my first Camino in 2012, so no 30 km days. And I am planning to hire a baggage service. I used to think people who did that were not doing an authentic Camino. I’ve been a bit humbled, but just grateful to return and looking forward to walking once more into SdC

Two years ago my companion fell and broke her arm barely 3k from the Cathedral. Through the intervention of local people and fellow perigrinos we were taken to hospital in Santiago. We were seen within an hour, xrayed, quickly and accurately diagnosed and treated. We were unhappy with falling but very happy with the treatment by the medical personnel at the hospital. She healed well and we returned the following year. I am glad that you healed and recovered but more especially that your have an altered view on authentic Caminos.
As regards authentic Caminos, I think this viewpoint may prevent people from attempting and enjoying the many Camino routes in Spain, Portugal, France and elsewhere. I hope people are not influenced by this attitude. The only authentic Camino is the Camino you do yourself. Carry your bag or use one of the many transport companies, use public transport if you feel tired, stay in a hotel, pension (or a Parador). In a world that is supposed to be inclusive I think it is sad that people can be put off by "real peregrinos" that must publicly blister and bleed all the way to the Cathedral. However, if that is what a person wishes to do then do so, but make room for those who have another way of looking at the world.

Buen Camino (or Bom Caminho)!

If you want to, you can bring your credencial that you used last time and continue with it. Just get it stamped to start this time in the same place youblast had it stamped before, to show the continuity.
