I find the planning stage almost intoxicating ;-) ... like I just can't wait to get back into it ... can't explain it :)
I have always thought there are three phases to a great adventure/trip/camino. #1 is the research and planning; #2 is actually doing it; and #3 is talking about it afterwards. I'm starting to think that #'s 1&3 are just as enjoyable and satisfying as #2.

I find planning and doing much more enjoyable than talking about it - especially when my audience has heard it over and over again! 😄

This forum is how I mostly talk about it (#3) unless I am specifically asked a question from a friend or family member. Then I have to watch carefully for glazed eyes so I will know when to stop talking! 😅

To each their own. I rarely do more than a sketchy plan. Flight dates and where I am flying to. Closer to the time I think about where I might stay on the first night and possible local travel within Spain.

For me the fun is in the adventure and I enjoy it best when I don't know exactly what lies ahead. Sometimes that means that I miss some "famous" or well known sight but I find that I tend to experience serendipitous things.

I was talking with a friend about this and I realised that "I like to follow butterflies". Butterflies seem to fly in random directions but still get to where they are going.

It's exactly what I did when I was traveling. I missed many a 'famous site', but found places and met people that I would never otherwise have come across. Serendipity indeed.

"Following butterflies" - beautiful.

Following butterflies is an adventure all on its own... lol. great euphemism.

I lay out spreadsheets, with tasks... get from house to airport, airport to hotel, hotel to train station... that way I can check my list of tickets to be sure they match on dates, and will get me from point A to point B. and in the background, I hear this chuckle...

very light, but there all the same, and I remember. If you want to hear God laugh? tell him your plans... however by some miracle? I have always got from A to B, just sometimes with a heck of a detour....
