As I walked the French this year, I stayed at 2 places that were for sale. I promised I would share with others about the properties in case there might be some interest from potential buyers. On both occasions, the reason for the sale was retirement and both have relationships with agents who bring them clients

1. Molino Galochas (www.molinogalochas.com)
A beautiful watermill in Villavante on the alternative route from León
They have private rooms, a couple of additional buildings and plenty of land.

2. Albergue Nuestra Señora del Pilar
A large albergue (70+ beds) with about 6 private rooms, bar, and multiple kitchens, A huge dining room and land. This was the first albergue in Rabanal del Camino and welcomed pilgrims even before it was an albergue. I believe they are asking for €600,000. they said they were open to different payment options such as rent to buy option.

Both of these places have been on the market for a while, thanks for your post to remind us. Pilar's owner died recently, it is a wonderful place, especially for groups of youth and cyclist. Molina is perfectly located before Hospital de Orbigo, I have stayed there several times.

The albergue in Rabanal is a really nice place to lay your head. The owners were so kind to me. I hope they are able to sell it soon and the new owners carry on the tradition of welcoming pilgrims.

Stayed in both of these in 2022. At Molino Galochas I stayed in one of the private rooms. Lovely facility, very clean and appeared well maintained.. Large dining room are great for communal meals. Large, pretty grounds would require maintenance/mowing but some lawn chairs, maybe a fire pit, would offer space for pilgrims to gather. It's in a rural setting, very peaceful. A bit off the beaten path but good signage, marketing and directions would get pilgrims there. Am not familiar with Spanish real estate to know if the asking price is realistic. Albergue Nuestra Senora del Pilar was unique, more rustic, and might require more maintenance and updating. We stayed there based upon rave reviews by some friends. My daughter and I stayed in a private room with shared bath. Totally odd. I think it was someone's grandmother's bedroom because all her clothes and other belongings were there. The cupboards and shelves in the shared bath were filled with someone's personal belongings - lipstick, make up, hair brush, various creams (medicinal and other), and so on. Was very small so any potential space to set down your own belongs while showering was basically non-existent. A purchase of this Albergue would require rethinking space use. Also, the only place to wash clothes was outside in the courtyard with only cold water - not a deal breaker for an albergue but something to be aware of. I did not see much else of the facility but sounds like it offers plenty of space for pilgrims and Rabanal was a good location. Again, don't know if the price is a good one.

Does anyone know if Gabriel was able to sell his beautiful albergue in Fromista? Possibly he did and it is still an albergue. Or it sold and became a private residence.

Molino Galochas at 400,000 euros would be steal if someone was looking to relocate to Spain. It would make a great family/retirement residence and the albergue aspect is just a plus, if one decided to go that direction. One time I stayed there two families were packing up to leave; they had been there for several days for some kind of reunion or celebration and had done lots of cooking at the outdoor grille area. They have a grove of cherry trees and the glass floor in the salon is amazing. If you were to think outside realm of Camino guest, it could also be a great destination spot for weddings and birthday parties for people from Leon and Astorga. It is directly on the alternative path that avoids the road walking after leaving Virgen del Camino. I am not familiar with the current immigration requirements for US citizens because the Golden Visa program which required a 500,000 euro real estate invest to gain a permanent visa was abolished this month. Wink, wink to anyone of you are considering alternatives, I got mine in Portugal last year.
