Hi everyone. I am in Roncevalles albergue right now in November 2024. I was quoted 100 euro for luggage transport from Buricot. They said it's slow season and they don't have any other luggage pickup at the Roncesvales albergue and they will be coming from SJPDP so theyre charching as if it’s taxi. Normally the transport is $7.

Has this happened to anyone before? If so, were you successful in contacting other company?

If not successful how was the walk the next day? My backpack weighs 14lb without food or water but I'm hoping to stock up on food for tomorrow's walk to Zubiri.

Thanks for the help.

it did not happen to me but then I did not walk in November
Like it or not.... thats the nature of business esp. the part that is called supply and demand (same as the "taxi" service from Biarritz - 1 person pays for the whole cab while if its full then it is split between everyone and winds up substantially cheap). Im not going to get into "fair or not" discussion suffice to say it is what it is...

That said I used NCS (Nunca Camina Solo) and actually started doing so from Roncesvailles. Give them a shout (The Hotel has the tickets\envelopes with phone ##)

Good luck and Buen Camino

Hi, there is no luggage transfer on the camino in winter, so, yes, it will be the cost of a taxi service if you want to have your bag transferred.

Express Bourricot are in France – you are in Spain – so they will be the most expensive option.

You will have to walk with your pack on your back in winter, so find out where the next accommodations are that are open, so you know how far you have to walk with it.

Walking in winter is a bit more challenging than the rest of the year, but it’s a great experience. Have fun!

I have lived in the Arctic all my life. I hate winter. I like a cold beer and a tortilla in the Spanish sun. :)
I have not. I dont know if i would go as far as to say that i HATE winter but I like your sentiments about cold beer and a tortilla in the Spanish sun. Probably Estrella and Jamon Iberico will fit the bill muy bien :)

Estrella Galicia: Soo much more than just a breakfast drink.

Back on track on this thread: If the weight of your backpack is only 7 kgs, (good; very good), carry it. Forget backpack transport (Assuming you can do without it). It gives you much more freedom to stop when you want , not when you need or must, in a low-traffic season

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
It didn't happen because I didn't get my bag transported on the CF, to answer your question. I looked up jacotrans and attach a screenshot. I have no idea if they operate in November. Correos is another option. I hope you can find help if you need to have your pack transported. Buen camino.

Thank you. I think I've just been reading too much on how the descent to zubini was kicking ppls butt. I have done no training up to date and the first 25km was not a walk on the park... for me anyways. Gonna give it a go w the backpack tomorrow. Thanks!

Transport luggage-passengers.
From airports to SJPP
Luggage from SJPP to Roncevalles
you will find out that Zubiri is not an obstacle as long as it is not raining. Just hold off for the cerveza until you reach the bottom of the hill, except I think the guy with the food cart does sell Mahou.

I got myself in a right tizzy before Zubini and..... it was fine! Walked slowly and considerately with a 7.5kg pack, and used poles. Now, the descent into Molinaseca was another matter, it almost reduced me to tears.

I'm on the Camino Frances now (Trabadelo on Nov 16). On Nov 1 I was told by Jacotrans that stops from Roncesvalles to Pamplona would be €35 for up to 3 bags. Pamplona to Burgos was €10 per bag, everything since Burgos has been €7. Will be dealing with a new driver from O Cebreiro, have no idea what that will cost.

I love winter walking. I had a heat injury on the Camino in 2022 so prefer to do my walking in the cooler months now. My pack weighs 12 pounds including medications and CPAP. We are all different though. Is there anything you can jettison?

That does not sound like an extraordinary load, most of us carry at least 6k or 13lbs. Why overload yourself with food and water? One litre of water at an additional 1k is nothing.
Unless you have a physical problem that prevents you from simply carrying 14 lbs in your pack...why not just do the "unthinkable" and just carry it?

I carried my pack down from Roncesvalles to Zubriri in the pouring rain last year and it was treacherous. It can be done easier in dry weather but much of the path is rocky and uneven. They call one section dragons teeth. Make sure yo have poles.

I am currently on the CF and Jacotrans will transport your bag for 10 euro in Spain. I am currently getting this done between Burgos and Leon due to shoulder bursitis. Get a Jacotrans envelope at your Albergue, Fill it out. contact Jacotrans in your area, probably Ronscevalles to Burgos via WhatsApp text telling where you want the bag picked up and where delivered to. Put the money in the envelope attached to the bag. Put the bag where the Albergue or hotel staff advise you to and go walk. If you don’t get a reply from Jacotrans when you contact them they may not be doing it in your area but check it out. Buen Camino.

I'm in Astorga on CF. Paid 7euros per day from Los Arcos to Logrono then on to Najera next day. Very happy with the service! That was a few weeks ago and Jacotrans said it was the last day. A week ago i discovered its still operating nearer Santiago but after November 15th you need to mail Jacotrans rather than book online. I did and requested a quote. Its 40 euros per day between Leon and Sarria because the season has ended. a bit more if you need to pay by credit card. i declined.

Thanks for Letting me know. I guess it means my Camino is over now. I trained for this and kept my bag light but you can’t beat an unexpected injury (bursitis) and a flare up of post-herpetic neuralgia. I’ve completed the Camino before so it’s not a tragedy. Buen Camino everyone still on the track!
