Road Bike Camino Del Norte

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
I‘d say that it‘s too rough in many sections. You‘ll have to deviate then to stay mainly on asphalt.
Additionally you have to face a lot of climbs, not very long ones but steep.

Thanks Josefus - are steep climbs more than 20%?

Hello! Is a road bike with 28mm tyres appropriate to ride Camino del Norte?
I would worry about the wheels as much as the tires. I just finished the portugues from
Lisbon on my touring Surly disc trucker.
Broke 3 spokes. Fully loaded with panniers. A Camino Angel, in the middle of nowhere repaired & trued & refused payment. My tires are a 700x41.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

Could you deviate from walking track and ride sealed roads? You were lucky Angel was there Wayne! Your bike wheels and tyres are sturdy compared to dainty road bikes. Must be lots of potholes and corrugations to break spokes - not good for road bikes! You have reminded riders to carry spare spokes. Thanks Wayne.

Hello Wayne, thank you for your insight and Angels are really wonderful! I'm in the planning stages of riding the Portugues next year from Porto on a front suspension MTB. May I ask what route you took, central or coastal, and how may days it took? Also, wondering about your full panniers, did you camp or mix up your accomodations?

Thank you again and I love this site!

Gravel may not be great for the Frances, but need a rugged gravel for a May departure. Saw a Nahamura Century (new) for €750 in Anglet's Intersport.... Sooo....Ivar's Intelligensia, any ideas??
