Hello! Mum's been wanting to walk to Camino for so long and we finally started planning it 8 months ago and starting in Valença next week! We're both super excited as it's our first pilgramage.
A question please: Mum's visual impaired and somewhat hard of hearing - we made a sign for her backpack and front. Would you recommend anything else or have any other advice? Thanks so much!

Fail to prepare? reduce your risk by buying this book full of practical info.
2nd ed.
I think that a sign like you are describing is a great idea. I have seen people attach a brightly colored balloon to their backpack as well. The balloon is unusual and therefore attracts attention and people will then read the signs and know how to interact with your mum. A balloon also does not add any weight - but bring a few spares! Buen Camino! You will be walking a lovely route!

If you haven't thought of this already: walking poles. They'll help with balance and, depending on the severity of the visual impairment, identify upcoming obstacles.
And maybe put a high-vis vest around the backpack, for upcoming cyclists or traffic from behind?

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Thank you so much for your response, that's a really great idea! Ooh, we're both very excited, not long now! :)

Ah yes, I thought about walking poles, I think we'll definitely bring them. She doesn't use her white cane very much (as normally someone's there with her), but she does like the poles. I like the idea of the high-vis as well. Thank you so much for your response! I appreciate it very much.

Your mum will be fine without any special preparations whatsoever; she doesn’t need a flashing light or a big sign. I think it’s great that she’s going to do this, and all will be well.

Just keep an eye on her near major roads. That’s the only aspect of the trip where her difficulties might increase risk.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
