26yrs ago my older brother (by 2yrs) decided to organise a charity cycle ride from Southport to Liverpool to raise funds for Marie Currie and it has been attended every year since, even though COVID only 6 riders were permitted. To date it has raised £80,000 and it was Phil’s wish to reach £100,000 but sadly Phil passed away a couple of weeks ago, a tragic loss and we all grieve for him and his family.
At his funeral last Friday the response was so heart warming, family, friends from near far and even people who only met him briefly came to pay their respect and tribute to a real gentleman, a giant.
At his wake I met up with friends of Phil’s who have decided to walk the last 100kms. More than 60 guys from Liverpool and around the UK and Northern Ireland are joining together about the 9th September to walk the camino.
We are still hoping that Phil’s legacy ride will continue this year and reach his dream target.
In memory of Phil
