I am planning my fourth Camino for Late October 2024. My first two Caminos, I simply made arrangements to sleep on the trail, always planning two days in advance. the last one, I pre-booked all the locations in advance. With possibly lower attendance on the trail at this time of year, can I go back to planning on the trail without the worry of being left without accommodations? We prefer pensions or accommodations with a private bathroom. Don't assume I am snooty, but we just prefer that little bit of privacy.

Train for your next Camino on California's Santa Catalina Island March 16-19
I don't see anything snooty- we only stay in pensions or albergues with private rooms and bathrooms. You don't say which camino you are planning to walk, but we have walked the Primitivo in Sept/Oct, coastal portugues Nov/Dec, Ingles in Oct. We did plan ahead because my husband does prefer to know where he is spending the night, but I can't imagine that you have to plan every day ahead as we saw few pilgrims on those routes in late fall, and even into December there were many open pensions, bars, etc. Buen camino, ultreia!!

I would look at the aprinca winter website which will tell you what may be open and if reservations are needed. I use a combination of the Aprinca site, gronze.com, and two of the Camino Apps. I generally don't book ahead, but sometime in winter you need to or the place may be closed when you arrive. Seasonal places will begin to close in mid October including pensions and private rooms with an en suite.

I’m sorry for not mentioning, we will walk the Portugués from Lisboa. Our plan was to take the coastal after reaching Porto. But just in case we tire of that route and switch to the central, I didn’t want to commit to bookings, only having to cancel and re-book.
