Here's something new that peregrinos on the Portuguese Central may want to look into--

Almost all the municipalities in the MedioTejo area have become part of a new e-bike network, where the bikes can be borrowed and paid for at any station and returned to any other in the overall district.

This sounds like it may be useful for those passing through the area and wanting to see some of the local historic sites (of which there are many; some quite impressive) but not really wanting too much extra walking.

The regional website was just set up today, and is available in Portuguese, English and French.

Operation seems to require downloading an Android or Iphone App. Prices can be applied short-term, or monthly or annually--these typically for local users.

There are stations both in Tomar and in Fatima, so that might be an option for a quicker sidetrip...

Bom caminho!

p.s. Looking at this, I think most of the bikes have not yet been installed--give them a week or two! This is brand new. The press conference publicizing it just happened last night.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
