Hostal Suso

Before we settle down in Santiago my wife and I stayed many times in old town and have tried out a few places. Of course we soon got our favorites (and no, it was not the Parador)

If you have read http://www.santiago-today.com from the beginning you will remember that I did a story on Hostal Suso early on. This is a place that has a great atmosphere, it's clean and has a price that no one can beat (â€30,- off season, € 36,- in season).

Hotel Suso

Fully agree with your view that the Suso is a good hotel. Spent a great night there after weeks of hostals, (say no more!).

Suso

Hi all, we spent with 7 persons 2 weeks in Suso. It was just great. We never found such friendly people. These 3 (?) Brother do a fantastic job there. ItÂŽs like wake up in heaven to smell fresh spanish coffee early in the morning, and have churros, hot and full of fat.

The placemant is the best you can imagine, beside you have a car. parking used to cost more than 1000 pts a night(it was 2001). But in the night, itÂŽs the best you can do to stay in the historic quarter.

Well, now, when ryan air and santiago will become true, we will do a long weenkend trip to santiago asap. Thats wat we have been waiting for. Cheap an nonstop. Even we have to drive to Hahn (130 km).
And..we will stay in suso again, no doubt.

Actually I stayed there in November 09 for 3 nights at the cost of €30 per night in a spacious twin room with TV overlooking the pedestrian street. First room I was shown was a tiny single room with tiny shower room, with no TV and no window (apart from a small window in the shower room overlooking an internal central shaft) which would have cost €18. This was also ok for the price but at the time I wanted a bit of space, which is why I opted for the more expensive twin room.

I really liked the Hostal Suso, it's very clean and in a brilliant location - my only complaint as a non-smoker was at times the smell of cigarette smoke drifting up from the cafe downstairs up the stairs, but that was no biggie as the smell did not reach all the way into the bedrooms. I took my breakfast (coffee and croissant) every morning at the (non-smoking) Cafe Casino just a few doors up from the Suso - it was very quiet in there in the morning, and I always managed to nab a table by the window so I could people watch while drinking my coffee.

This is one of the first threads on the Forum and worth reviving. I stayed in the Hostal Suso in September, and it is as great as ever. For the new members, consider finishing your camino in Santiago at the Suso. It is popular enough that reservations are recommended. They have WiFi if you need it.

Stay in San Martin Pinario- Seminario mayor opposite the cat

Single room, own key, own bathroom, fabulous buffet breakfast, caminoist lounge, like a parador, eating with paying guests for 5 star. 23 euros only and so quiet.
Wonderful place.

I have stayed at the Suso twice. The location can't be beat and is usually a very good price.
Great local bar/cafe on street level. Get a front facing room and watch the Pilgrims come by.
Have also stayed at much more expensive places in Santiago....but will probably return to the Suso in the future.
