      Hi Trecile in the past I hiked with my pack and would certainly never have considered bag transfer. As previous suggestions I'm going to look at a fitted daypack option, as you say with hipbelt etc.

      Thank you. Definitely will have 2 bags as there is no way I can carry spare clothes, toiletries, sandals, fleece etc along with daytime needs of water, snacks, sketchbook.

      Is your main bag a backpack? If so and you like it, look for a smaller bag from the same company. If you are sending a suitcase or duffel ahead, try out some of the more popular brands (Osprey, Deuter, Gregory) in 15-22L.

      Then I suggest taking an old fashioned small camera and stash phone, turned off, at the bottom of your pack with the emergency muesli bar.

      You are overthinking it IMO. Put phone on airplanemodus or only operate it at a certain hour ( if you want to connect with the homefront).

      I need mine for photos, writing the blog, booking rooms and reading the newspaper. But not so long ago, these things didn't exist and yet there were pilgrims who made it all the way to Santiago.
