I have given another pilgrim money for a bed and supper more than once. I did it knowing I might never see the money again. When I give like that, I understand that once the money leaves my hands, I have no controll on what the other person does...
On the other hand, I think one element of the transformative Camino experience is learning how good it feels to be generous to strangers.
