Raised among "by the book Catholics" but do not adhere. Introduced to the pilgrimage to Santiago in Freshman year by my medieval art history professor. 12 years later and I think I'm ready and have reached a weird crossroads in my life.
I'm not a particularly active person on any given day so this will be a challenge. I'm not much of a "camper" but have backpacked around Europe. I want to get out of my comfort zone.
I'm also endlessly fascinated by medieval history, specifically the growth of Catholicism and saint cults. I don't plan on making this trip as a "scholar" but as an actual participant in the tradition. I find it a wonderfully unique opportunity to connect with the strong faith and cultural practices of my ancestors. I mostly plan to keep myself as open as possible (especially in terms of not planning. I have anxiety. So I'm trying to strike a deal with myself with lots of information but not planning out every day and every stop.) and naturally try all the food.
