One bit of advice that may save one a lot of hassle. I started the Camino with walking shoes/boots, supposedly a good brand which came recommended. They nearly made me quit after only 8 days. I took some advice and bought a pair of hiking sandals (brand name is Source), they made such a difference. My feet got wet on occasion, but my feet made it through and I finished my first Camino in late October 2014. I have used the same pair of sandals on the Portuguese Camino, once again i had no problems with my feet. If you need some ankle support just get ankle straps, worked well for me.
