For planning, my recommendation is to determine how many days you think that you will need to walk the Camino, then add a week. Now you've got a week "in the bank" to use if you get sick, injured, realize that you can't or don't want to walk the...
I was lucky to be assigned to the albergue in Salamanca last spring over Easter. It was busy due to the Easter celebrations. I must admit this seemed a bit of a holiday … no meals, a cleaner 5 days. What luxury. Gave time to deep clean the...
Tuesday 15 October.
It's about 4:00 pm and we've been open around an hour. So far we have 4 pilgrims, all Spanish men, all on the VDLP (one in reverse), one bicigrino.
This morning, after we said goodbye to the pilgrims and got the place in...
Hello from Salamanca!

Thanks for so many useful responses. I don't mind walking on quiet roads, it's just the length of this stage would be a real problem for me, so it's great to know there should be a taxi option for part of the way :)
When I walked there in 2012 it was raining heavily in the morning. We were 4 people who shared a taxi to the park entrance. No point in walking 16 kms in soaking rain and destroy the day. That first stretch (@jungleboy is correct) is on a...
You seem to have had some terrible luck. I've never had such an issue finding protein on the meseta: whether it was in tortilla for breakfast, tuna and eggs on a mixed salad in the first course of a menu del dia, or as meat or fish or poultry in...
I had the best pilgrim dinner at Los Canarios! Homemade gazpacho as a first course, and delicious roasted lemon chicken with roasted potatoes (no French fries!) with red pepper puree as the main course. Yummm!
