  We met a biking family with two boys in grade school on our first Camino. At 14, he may well out bike you!

  The day we arrived in Santiago there was a group of cyclist pilgrims from Italy. The nine year old among them was given the loudest applause... so once you pace the trip you will be fine with the grandson.
