I didn't carry a wallet. I had a bank card stashed away in my ruck-sack for cash points. Other than that everything was done via my phone. My phone and passport stayed in my back-pack for showers etc, or sometime the phone would be left charging. Only once did I ever feel the need to take these...
Certainly, in September last year, it was no problem - if you took care. It's certainly not everyone's favourite decent and is often singled out. I hope they don't do anything stupid with it like put in an escalator or something because it is part of the Camino, and as @mspath has helpfully...
Wishing your recovery continues to proceed at such a great rate @Peterexpatkiwi. It is of course all about these little milestones and above all humility towards ones self.
From all of the posts on this recently, for me, it's best to assume an Albergue is only truly full if;
a) you turn up and they tell you it's full

Disease, hunting and natural predators (that haven't already been shot by the hunters) keeps the numbers low in other areas. Further South they are actively...
So the expectation will be for 2025 to be busier than normal (whatever normal is)? Do these things affect the whole routes, or generally the last say 100K type issues?
Rabbit if cooked correctly is a very nice meat. You will often get this on the menu in Spain especially in the Pyrenees (not so much on the Camino I don't think), but a lot of the time it is farmed rabbit (edit - wild rabbit is nice farmed is not - very bland). Another example of human craziness...
What a shame, but venison is definitely more popular now. It's probably another irony that the venison is coming from farmed animals whilst the wild venison is sent to landfill. Surely it could be used for dog food at the very least. . .
I haven't hired a car since pre-covid, but even then the fuel situation was always a bit of a pain. Often you might not use a full tank so of course wouldn't want to pay for a full tank upfront, but the pain of having to find somewhere to fill it up near to drop off was often a hassle. Add to...
