Train Advice - Santiago to Barcelona

If you have the time, please consider the slower direct route. I just checked some prices and realised that it's the train I took from Vitoria Gastiez to Santiago in April. For a random day in September the fare to Barcelona is 22 euros and for that you get air-conditioned armchair comfort...

Train Advice - Santiago to Barcelona

Suggest you look at www.seat61.com, a non-commercial website which explains all about train travel in Europe and gives the best websites to use for timetables and booking tickets. I did this journey on my way home last year, and it gives a great sense of the scale and landscape of Spain. There...

Post items from the UK to Spain (at the mid-point of Camino del Norte)

Yes, there are ways of getting parcels through, in theory. In practice it seems erratic. More than once my friend has found herself queuing for almost an hour in an inconveniently located office to retrieve and pay tax on a gift of relatively low value. Mind you, some of the problems may be...

Post items from the UK to Spain (at the mid-point of Camino del Norte)

Definitely don't try to ship from the UK. I've had to stop sending birthday and Christmas parents to a friend who lives there because of issues with customs.

    Committing... and transport query?

Suggest you use the booking sites recommended on Seat 61. Even for experienced train bookers Renfe can be tricky to use.

Molinaseca to O Cebreiro stage mess up?

If you want to shorten the stage a bit could you cancel your O Cebreiro booking and stay 5 k shorter at La Faba, which doesn't take bookings.

    Committing... and transport query?

Renfe is notorious for releasing tickets late and erratically. For details, and good information about train travel in Spain (and everywhere else) see https://www.seat61.com/train-travel-in-spain.htm. The site is run by a rail enthusiast and has proved reliable for my last 15 years of...

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

I believe the caminos de Santiago in Iberia are the only walking pilgrimage routes in the world where, depending on route, it is possible to: walk less than 20k a day and sleep under a roof each night, and spend 40 euros a day or less for accommodation and food; and meet people from all over...

    The Pilgrim’s Guide to Etiquette

During the pilgrim blessing at the Monastery of Herbon the priest asked each of us in turn where we came from. I answered Inglaterra, and was given a sheet bearing a prayer in English. The next pilgrim along told him, proudly , that she was from Escocia. This caused some consternation as he...

    Cancelling Camino - Soliciting Advice

Thank you so much for reporting back, and so glad you had a great experience.

    Favorite Entrance to SDC?

Certainly the entry on the Portuguese is more attractive than from the Frances, and in my view the entry on the Ingles is even nicer. Most attractive of all was coming in from Finisterre and Muxia. That has greenery till just before you reach buildings, with a great view of the cathedral then a...

Pacemaker Implant Surgery Tomorrow. A New Phase for Future Caminos.

Very best wishes, from one who has learnt so much from you. I hope all goes well tomorrow and you are soon able to be planning your next camino.

    Showers

If you do wish to shower in the morning please take account of the exact bathroom configuration. I've been in an albergue where both bathrooms, each containing shower, toilet and basin, were occupied by people taking long showers. There was a queue of desperate folk with crossed legs.

Getting from Madrid to San Sebastian

Luz, as in my previous post the bus takes five and a half to six hours. It will be a bit less from the airport. The website for tickets is alsa.es

Getting from Madrid to San Sebastian

If you're flying into Madrid and not staying there some of the buses pick up at the airport, which may be easier. San Sebastian is lovely, compact with an interesting old quarter, good food and lots of places to stay. Cheaper than Madrid, though it may be different in high season.
