    If you plan to use poles (highly recommended), leave the umbrella and bring a wide brimmed hat that provides ventilation. I have a Panama which I swear by. BTW, the poles will also shoosh Camino dogs who become "attentive" as @Tincatinker...

    Hats are completely unnecessary: simply remove your head and carry it in your rucksack ;) Me? I always carry an umbrella: useful in rain and for shade and great for "shooshing" at over attentive dogs

    I heard it was a very large bird of prey that tried to actually lift the pilgrim from the trail in a mountain area... local reports say the backback was too heavy... so its seems that the pilgrim was saved by an overweight backpack....lucky...
