This is my first time in spain. It seems that I will be arriving in Santiago with several days, almost a week, to spare before you touch my plane home. If you were in my shoes where would you spend those five or so days?
yes there is, near the church. Portomarín is a small town, and almost everyting you might need is near rhe church square and the street leading in or out of town.

Bedbugs can happen even in the most expensive hotels.
You may try the Hotel Alda, I was happy with the Albergue Xacobeo in 2019.
IMHO the Albergue Atrio do have private rooms, too.
