My walk today took me around the town of Culburra Beach on the NSW South Coast where my husband Steve and I have a holiday home. We’ve been close to some of the bushfires which are widespread across NSW and other states in Australia - it’s been and continues to be a devastating time for all those affected by the bushfires and a worrying time for the rest of us.
Like most of the beaches in NSW, Culburra Beach has ash and burnt leaves everywhere. Ribbons of ash are along the tideline. See the following photo:


The brown hue is from the pyro cloud which obscures the sun.
We are still in The Lucky Country though - a Happy and Hopeful 2020 for everyone, wherever you are.

My short stroll took me down along by the quays to the last bridge on the Liffey before it opens out into the sea, and from there back around over the other side, about 50 minutes. Blue skies, clouded at one spot by a never ending waste disposal facility.
I was a kind of yellow arrow to a guy with a huge backpack and a front pack bigger than my 33 litre one! Having chosen to greet everyone with Happy New Year, from him I learned he was heading for a particular bus. A few minutes later I saw him going off course. So of course, I followed him and after catching his attention led him to the correct bus stop, in time to pick up the bus he needed to get to the airport.

Thank you, @kirkie. But it’s @Theatregal who I believe lives close by to some lovely nature walks; I have to go further afield to find them. I also think she has a superior camera! I have no pics from yesterday as it was far too dark, dreary and drippy. I did learn tho’ that my light merino gloves are not quite up to the task in the cold and rain - while using poles - so I stopped off en route at my local MEC and bought some “Waterproof Enough“ gloves (no kidding!) to wear overtop of them - will have to check out that combination of rain gear another time.

I do hope you have fully recovered from your bug and are able to enjoy some good walks.

Thankyou Chrissy. Yes it a beautiful place, I'm very lucky to be able to live here. I live on the edge of a small town (a village really) in a rural area, surrounded by nature. I can be in the Galtee mountains within 30minutes whenever I want to go for a hike. I grew up in an industrial smog-filled steelworking city in the north of England, and give thanks that now my morning commute to work takes me through beautiful countryside everyday. I'm very lucky......

Walk to the local marl caves. Also the habitat of some bats.
They closed the caves now because unfortunately there was alot of vandalism.
Afterwards we visited the old artisanal syrup factory ( our area is well known for the apple and pear orchards ) now a museum.

After wavering and throwing a few ideas in the air, I took a train to another point on the river and walked back home. I called in to Christchurch Cathedral, where there was a magnificent sung Eucharist, and I refreshed my stock of photos of their camino themed seats, and the motif on the centre aisle. Then I stopped for a moment to take a photo of a cast of piece of sculpture by a Canadian sculptor, Timothy Schmalz. . The title is Homeless Jesus.

Walked through the 'Kalmthoutse Heide' yesterday, a beautiful nature reserve on the border of the Netherlands and Belgium: heathland, forests, fens and dunes. Not a lot of pictures taken, as my wife and I were walking with friends we hadn't seen for a while. We had a lot of catching up to do.

Me too! Curious, bold little birds. At a bird sanctuary near me, they have different kinds of seeds to feed the birds. Fun watching the chickadees when they land on your hand, stare at you, then take their time picking which seeds they'll eat, picking up and tossing aside the ones they don't want

So we celebrated by taking a day off, and going to the National Botanical Gardens for a stroll (one the party is nearly 90, so we only walked about two or three kms.

I took some pics with a dying battery and no display. I couldn't see a darn thing. You're lucky I'm not posting photos of my feet, or a crooked horizon.

The phone had shut down by the time the family of Gibbons swang by. Dad, mom, and baby (along for the ride). WOW! They're not a 'feature' for visitors, but wild ones. Dad was astonishing...like the best gymnast ever. An amazing treat.

My phone's working in slo-mo so I may have to post the pics tomorrow...

Here's a mash-up of two short walks, one in the AM one in the PM.
Past a cauliflower field to a local pagoda, then later just down past a coffee plantation to visit several neighbors, one after another. Aftee tomorrow it gets busy, so all this flitting here and there will be out of the question.

Yesterday and today we walked in the Fairlop country park near our home
It's a regular walking place for us and our nearest "local walk"

Out the door ...5 minutes on the road and 10 minutes through the sports fields and we're there ...and then about 4-5 miles of walking on natural and man made paths

From what I understand, it's a man made lake about 40 years old with various paths all around and smaller lakes on the perimeter ...right now though many paths are very muddy due to the large amount of recent rain...lots of swans, ducks and geese

A great place for children and families ..there are boulders and various timber frames to climb for energetic little ones
Cycle paths and a sailing school where the school children learn as part of their PE lessons
A club house where we often have a coffee on our way home ...more often though we take the long path around the edge and head for the high street where Mac Donald's do a great cup of tea!

There's also a "fun house" with slides and ropes etc where parents and grandparents can watch their children" knock themselves out" when the weather is bad in the holidays...and a climbing school with harnesses for older children
It's where we used to take ours many moons ago........saying that, it was fun to go down the slides ourselves.......before the bad knees got in the way
Now, we can't get up in order to slide down!!!!
Still there's always the cafe!

A sunny day today and a good walk.
On our return I spotted the "Stars and stripes" of America ...first time I'd noticed this
Not sure what the other flag was though.
We'll probably be walking there most days next week too

A beautiful place. Visited with my niece last year, and would like to go again.

Usual walks are around Tacoma, WA. I live half a block from Wright Park. Also grocery store very near. Living "car-free" so use the bus, occasional Uber or Taxi. Many beautiful walking places here.

Just 10 minutes the other way we have Hainault forest...a huge place where we regularly get lost.
Next time we go, I'll post some photos
We used to spend hours there when the children were young
Apparently it was the hunting ground of the Kings back then
Most Londoners are pretty lucky though as there are a lot of green spaces in the place ...large and small
The London Loop goes right around the city...never would think it is in the country and so near the metropolis!
Maybe you should do some walking here but I know how hard it is to drag oneself away from the Camino!!

I saw a number of interesting things today. One was a memorial to the man who wrote the lyrics to what became the Irish National anthem, another was a statue of Brendan Behan. Today he looked a bit different. Someone had taken pity and given him a coat to wear. The third thing I snapped was a bicycle, well, actually, a penny farthing bicycle. Not the best for a camino ...
No photo of the monument to Mr Kearney - who was an uncle of Brendan Behan, seemingly - but yes, one of Brendan, and a cute one of the penny farthing, It is actually an advert for a nearby shop.

Glendalough, the valley of the two lakes, is associated with St. Kevin, a hermit who reflected by the Upper of the lakes.

Time to get out from the winter hibernation...not that we have much of a winter, nearly 10 degrees C today and no snow at all. Went for a walk on the wall that is meant to protect us from avalanches from the mountain above. But now there is not much snow to make an avalanche. The new wall is great, but the old one is nicer

I've been out trying BPT's "The Old Way" starting in Southampton at first light. Then along the coast plus inland. Should be renamed "The Wet Way"

Haven’t had much time lately for good walks - busy long days with work on a tour. Yesterday though, the theatre was in a lovely setting on a small lake and the weather was beautiful. I had such a great walk during my dinner break on the path around the lake.

Bitterly cold. A short walk yesterday along by the Royal Canal. Reminders of the Famine walk, a haughty looking specimen - I don't know what species he or she is, and a swan with a personality problem. A salmon could make it... someone had got there before me and alerted the relevant people to release the swan.

I think the haughty specimen is a Cormorant. I love watching them here - after they dive, they stand for a time on rocks or dock posts and spread their wings wide to dry them. The swan looks like she's weighing her options and trying to decide on her next move

You are correct of course about the cormorant. I was flummoxed by the beak, as I have only seen them at a greater distance and they are all black in my mind's eye.

The river tide was extremely low, revealing beach areas I hadn’t seen before and I could leave the path for long stretches and walk along the shore. A great morning walk with a bit of sea glass beach-combing along the way.

The Camino Society had organised a training for volunteers for the Information Centre, and an Information session for aspiring pilgrims, and a celebration paella etc for existing volunteers. Here are a couple of photos from the church, and it would be well worth a visit for any pilgrims passing through Dublin to or from a Camino on the Continent.

It's close and has easy access, and most of the tourists stick to the centralized concrete trails in the heart of GoG. It's mostly locals who are even aware/are on the several other trails throughout the park.

I've been busy the last week: I have enough material for two posts.
Last weekend I finally visited @SabineP. My wife studies in Maastricht every Saturday this year, and that isn't too far from Sabines neck of the woods. So I dropped off my wife and from there on proceeded towards Tongeren, the "first city" of Belgium.
Sabine was in charge of the route we would walk and she proved to be the best guide for the job. A great walk of about eight kilometers, a tour of Tongeren and we exchanged quite a number of stories during the day. It was an absolute pleasure to meet my pilgrim neighbour from the South in person!

I also spent two days on Terschelling, the third island from the left just north of the Dutch mainland. My favorite island of the five inhabited ones, I've visited it a couple of times already. This time with my wife, and although the weather wasn't great, we had a great time hiking and biking. The biggest discovery was a cemetery just outside the largest village on the west side of the island, in a grove of pines. Calm and peaceful.

I have been in Orange Beach, Alabama for two months on the Gulf of Mexico, escaping our snowy midwest winters. We go home in two days, and today was my last last walk on the beach to the pier and back on the powder white sand, a total of five miles with three new friends.

Sabine and Purky, you are so fortunate to meet up with each other. I have met a number of forum members over the past few years, both in the states and in Spain; always such a pleasure. My newest meet up connection will be this May, when i will be having dinner with @Peter Fransiscus in Santiago as he is volunteering in the pilgrim's office at the same time Ii will be there. He's a long time forum pal, and I am so looking forward to it!

I also spent two days on Terschelling, the third island from the left just north of the Dutch mainland. My favorite island of the five inhabited ones, I've visited it a couple of times already. This time with my wife, and although the weather wasn't great, we had a great time hiking and biking. The biggest discovery was a cemetery just outside the largest village on the west side of the island, in a grove of pines. Calm and peaceful.

Today on the island of Montreal, Quebec, Canada the temperature at 9am was -14 Centigrade and with the windchill it felt like -19. A group of 11 of us (including 3 who have walked the Camino and a 4th who is in training) walked 21km. Walking conditions were fairly good considering that we had rain mixed with snow 2 days prior. The sidewalk plow operators did a good job keeping the sidewalks relatively ice free.

Local hunters are so nice to post a sign that they were active on the 27th of Feb. Does not say though till when...

I have a five week work contract in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Interesting coming from the west coast where early spring flowers are popping up, to a city still in winter. I’m enjoying it. Today some time to explore my neighbourhood on an urban walk with lots of warming tea stops! In the first and second photos you can see the phenomenal Canadian Museum for Human Rights.
