I mean, this is so serious we should report it for being a misleading thread, and get more 'Replies' and 'Views' because this thread is far more serious, like the camino I'm starting in two weeks from León to Oviedo to Santiago, probably in exteme conditions and are there any recommendations for ice cream shops along those routes? Or any unusual varieties of Pizza to be discovered?

I wore double red, some red socks and a red bandaner in Pamplona, on the Francés of course, two years ago, and had to run for my life because some mad bulls had escaped from the bull ring and decided to chase me. I was so scarred I ran all the way to Cizor Minor. The only other problem I've had when wearing double something, when I was experiencing extreme sweat on the Camino Inglés last year which I completed in record slow time of 22 days, in wellington boots which also chaffed badly, was when I wore double underpants... but if you want to know about that I can only suggest not trying it at home or maybe when we meet on a camino of extreme distance some time I'll tell you about it, man to man. Only a fellow man pilgrim would understand. If I told a woman pilgrim she would probably only laugh and say 'serves you right'. I most stop now, I'm trying to pack my rucksack ultra-light for the Salvador and Primitivo in two weeks. Best wishes and Buen Camino and Bon Camino, Keith

You're meant to leave stones at Cruz de Ferro? I thought you had to gather them so I filled my backpack.. so that's why I've been heavily burdened (both spirituality and physically) ever since.. although on the plus side I have a lovely rockery feature in my garden now.

As I said above. One never knows where the Camino will take them....or this thread. @andywild , it’s pleasant to think that my stone is in your rockery. It’s from the coast of Maine. As for hairy shirts....

At the extreme risk or derision from a lot of forum members..."FAKE NEWS!"

In a perfect world, the forum support system would present a pop-up box highlighting similar questions posed in the past, before you actually posted your question. Then you would have a second chance to proceed and post a possibly redundant question, or have a look at the same question, no doubt asked dozens of times previously. But, I do digress...as is usual for me...

But, seriously, do enjoy your Camino.

Replicated questions aren't a huge issue in my mind.. they usually get re-answered (that's got to be a real word) or some kind soul offers a link.. the poster gets the info, the thread stops and retires to a darkened corner to live out it's days surrounded by posts regarding best footwear/backpack/poncho queries..
The rest of us continue on, posting our hugely important threads in an attempt to bring a modicum of knowledge or humour into the mix.. but I digress, surely we should be discussing how lucky I am to be doing two Caminos in one year! And most importantly should I take my waterproof trousers? I didn't use them on the CF on my last walk.

On a more serious note, the vast majority of this forum is awesome in helping the newbies learn the basics needed for a first camino, while the more seasoned walkers get to dig deeper to glean additional info as they branch out to lesser walked routes. A win, win for all...
but I also have thoroughly enjoyed the lightheartedness of the "NOT a serious thread". Obviously there are several others besides me that enjoy being silly/goofy and that thread provides us an outlet to express that side of our personality with similar minded folks on this forum. It's a bland rainy day this morning. Do I want to clean my closet or procrastinate while I sit on my duff for awhile viewing this new, delightful thread that has tickled my funny bone this morning. Yes I do! Thanks @andywild! ...And now, I'd better get started on that closet.

I need to report that here in Tacoma, WA, we had Tacoma Aroma! while the teevee weather report was telling us it was sunny. Well, that was sort of true, behind/around the smokeiness that comes with that Aroma. If that could be put into a spray can it could be a valuable pest deterrent on the Camino and the Caminho. Or produce a cloud in which to hide, though your coughing would give you away.

Ian, put water in a bowl that will not break in the freezer. Put water in half way. When it is frozen, but a quarter on top of the frozen wter. Then when you come home if the quarter is still on top of the water .....you know that the electricity was not out long enough to spoil any goods you have in it!

Absolutely there are good blogs out there, but most are on the more traveled routes. The Frances, The Norte, etc. I like the guide books for technical stuff and not all videos are good actually are useful. I don't like people focusing on themselves but other pilgrims and the views of their walk. I do like more the professional type documentaries about historical stories and regions.

Does it work if you put a coin on top of a frozen chicken, or curry left-overs? I've no room for a bowl of water in my freezer before I go on my mega camino in two weeks, a double camino, two-for-one, you might say - which is why my freezer is so full, all these two-for-one offers at iceland. PS sorry, I don't want to make people jealous of my full freezer before I go on Camino, just jealous of my two-for-one Camino route this month.

Funny you should mention about packing your lightweight gear for the CF, as I'm just working on the same packing for my CSP this month - thing is, I'm working on getting my 22 Kg backpack down to a Bumbag to fix around my waist. Its a normal waist-bumbag, and I'm nearly there (not on my CSP - with the packing), but what do I do about my walking poles? They just don't fit in even though they are lightweight Allu-titanium telescopic poles that convert to emergency survival fishing rods or tent poles, or even long thin poles to roast the fish you may have caught with them, or sausages and crumpets, on open fires (not whilst on Camino, I hasten to add). They don't reduce enough to fit Should I cut two carefull, professional, unobtrusive holes/slots in the side of the bumbag to tuck them in. Does anyone have similar experience with this dilema? Thoughts and ideas and suggestions welcome, before I go on my CSP with my lightest pack ever. I don't want a certain well-known economy airline service banning me from the flight to my CSP, or even worse, having to stand in-line at check-in whilst they embarrass me with complaining and charging an exorbitant surcharge for the poles not being packed properly.

You'll have to get your Macgyver skills onto it, me thinks. You'll be well versed on this, given the caminos you've done and are about to embark on. I'm sure you'll tell us how you managed on your CSP when you return - you won't need any encouragement I'd say!

After the usual excessive chin stroking I’ve elected to go all the way to Roncy on day 1. Bookings made. On another tack, I can remember Amy Turtle turning on the Christmas lights at Sutton. 1973? Them were the days. Ah memories, leave me alone. I’m a yellow belly.

This would have tempted even a saint to jealousy a few years ago - in fact it’s a full nine hours shorter than the quickest route I’ve taken to Europe in the past. And only one stop!
I wonder what I should do with that 30kg baggage allowance;-)

Funny hair shirts have been mentioned in this thoroughly nonsensical yet essentialical thread (many thanks to the WildMan for starting it, its your fault). I've attached a pici of the trainning me and a few chums have been undertaking, in our hair shirt-leggings combi, me esspecially preparing for my next Camino, the CSPStdC. I'm the one at the front, just in case you can't recognise me. My new bumbag pack is hidden in the hair shirt or you would be jealous of it and be wondering how I did it. They weigh 10 grams when dry, 23.5 Kg when wet, more when wet and muddy. We testied them inside out at first, but the doctors said the rashes the gear makes are disgusting and they'll refuse to treat us as there's no cream for the rashes. They are just as effective worn hair-out, and the rashes are not nearly half so bad. I've franschised the design and you can get them at the link below:

I think if I did sjpdp again I would probably try for Roncesvalles in one day.. with a bit of decent prep and an early start...

Kiwi-family - I understand your passive aggression in your reply, and am not offended or jealous or suspiscious, I can empathise, about leaving some ice cream for you when I'm on my CSPStdC. My question is - what is your favourite flavour? This is important and will prepare you for your Camino.
PS: fantastic, incredible flight schedule booking with Qutar you have there but do they have ice cream on the menu? I don't want to spoil your flight for you as I'm not in the least bit in any way at all jealous as I'm flying with a very very famous budget airline which I'm sure will be incredibly underwhelming and anything on my CSPStdC will be uplifting and an inspiration after that experience

Funny hair shirts have been mentioned in this thoroughly nonsensical yet essentialical thread (many thanks to the WildMan for starting it, its your fault). I've attached a pici of the trainning me and a few chums have been undertaking, in our hair shirt-leggings combi, me esspecially preparing for my next Camino, the CSPStdC. I'm the one at the front, just in case you can't recognise me. My new bumbag pack is hidden in the hair shirt or you would be jealous of it and be wondering how I did it. View attachment 46065 They weigh 10 grams when dry, 23.5 Kg when wet, more when wet and muddy. We testied them inside out at first, but the doctors said the rashes the gear makes are disgusting and they'll refuse to treat us as there's no cream for the rashes. They are just as effective worn hair-out, and the rashes are not nearly half so bad. I've franschised the design and you can get them at the link below:

PS I've heard rumours that people post random threads to spread rumours about people posting random questions just so that they can brag about their upcoming Camino.. Is this true? Surely, so, and why not?

That is truly an awesome piece of kit. Is the head gear an optional extra or your own luscious locks?

I'm not saying I'd relish the thought of up and over in one go but I think with the right amount of water/energy bars and cigarettes I think I could make it.. plus it would save the 36euros plus drinks at Orisson.. which I could then spend on wine and more cigarettes to help numb the memory/pain..

We had Status Quo here in Innsbruckshire - yes, they are alive, the concert was loud, the same rhythm throughout, but they don't shake their heads as much... nor anything really, but me and me mates were so overwhelmed we decided to pay tribute to The Quo by adapting wigs for our inside-out hair shirt-legging combis as a Camino homage to the mighty Quo. If you purchase a suit but don't like Quo, we are offering alternative homages to your taste - Celine Dion, for example, Cher, Demise Rusos. We do have a Hercules wig, just in case your backpack is too heavy, it may help but we don't make guarantees. The list is long and I'm sure you'll find your choice for your Camino - which I've heard rumour is different to mine as I'm doing the CSPStdC.es very soon.

Hello Kanga - sorry if you're upset about this, but this thread has been a breath of fresh air to me, making light of my upcoming Camino - which I do take seriously, obviously and without question. I'm old and have physical challenges to overcome along the Salvador and Primitivo, as well as contemplating some heavy issues, and have in fact been worried and nervous about embarking the caminos - but this thread has, truly, lightened my mind and helped me to work around the mental challenges I'm facing. So, if possible, don't be hard on us, it does help to see the lighter side and we mean, I mean, no disrespect to anyone and especially not this forum. And if anyone has to be barred from the forum because of it, I can only say that AndyWild started it

And if I can afford it I'm hoping to maybe pop and do a few days on the Frances so might end up back in Santiago for a third time in one trip! Hmmm... I think my blog might not be quite the thing you're looking for then.. it was the word "professional" that started me worrying.. my style is definitely more... How should I put this?... Actually I believe your blog is great. I read a lot about the places I travel. In the last 12 months I have been walking in Poland, Czech Republic, and Iraq. So I try to get as much info as possibble mainly by reading.

Thank you for the kind words.. it's actually quite tricky. I don't want it to be all facts.. that's just a guide book.. I don't want excessive info in there, incase it spoils the newness of if readers walk it themselves.. I tried to write it more as a personal journey interspersed with occasional pieces of info.. like albergues. I think I only really mentioned 3 of them in the 42 days and that's because they made a big impression on me..
To be honest, once I met the members of team tortoise the blog was pretty much writing itself.. who wouldn't want to know what the glorious Randy has been up to?
I hope the Portuguese blog turns out as well
