Few people know that if you look down the hill from behind the Pilgrim's Monument at Alto del Perdon you should be able to see the ruins of an old medieval pilgrim's hospital and albergue. The small village of Zariquiegui, at a distance. If you have watched Martin Sheen's "The Way" you may recognize the front of Zariquiegui' church (San Andres) as the setting for one of the movies earlier scenes.
Alto de Perdon is one of my take away gems from the Camino Frances. It was on the way here that three separate groups of pilgrims began walking together as one family over the next month to Santiago and then on to Finisterre and Muxia. Wonderful memories of 2012.
Great photo & thanks for the advice about the old ruins. I know that on a clear day you can see all the way back to the Pyrenees - 60 or more km. Cheers
