Start of the Calzada Romana after C de los Hermanillos

I walked this part of the Camino with my Danish Camino Daughter. Even in mid-late May it was a very warm day departing Sahagun just after 6.30 am and arrived at Reliegos just on 4.00 pm. I don't remember meeting another pilgrim. Ah memories

Since there are no trees and shade, I rested about halfway through by putting my head under a small bush (it was August). It probably looked ridiculous. The only pilgrim I met passed by - a very young American. He stopped and talked to me for a few minutes - it was obvious he was checking to see if everything was okay with me (and he was too polite to ask, "Old woman, are you still alive?" ). When he made sure everything was OK he continued visibly relieved. This is one of my most precious memories on Camino.
I was also impressed with the number of storks.

Hola @m108, you are correct there is no shade or shelter on the first section to Calzadilla (we stopped here for our 9.00 am coffee); we also refilled all our water bottles (I think I had nearly 3 litres) and Hanna had a bit over two. On the second section there was a rest stop about 3.5 km after we crossed the only road (but no water - for humans). The last section in to Reliegos was very tough on Hanna (she was out of water - shared mine - but she really needed shade). We were glad to get the bar and the albergue. I would not recommend this alternate in August, unless you did in two days. Cheers
